RobertAM
Seems like Hunslet are looking forward tom their trip to the den. lotsa chatter on the twitterfeed about Toronto, a reception at Katana sushi bar inviting travelling fans participation etc. Right attitude going into the weekend. Wish them well and hope the whole travelling circus is a success. Being a Bradford boy I'm look forward to meeting the team and fans at the Brazen head and beer tents. Seems they have enlisted some help on the pitch with loaners etc. Really buzzed about the game!!

There are quite a few coming over and they have promised to sing their famous song at the Brazenhead before the game...its good for Toronto to have one of the glorious original clubs coming over...looking forward to it...hopefully the weather co=operates! How big do you think the crowd will be Robert (first night game):_____________
RobertAM
I'm guessing a tad over 8000. there's a Cda-US rugby union match in hamilton at 3pm if it finishes on time perhaps that crowd will migrate to Lamport. says they expect abt 10000! CanaBull
Looking forward to this! Got my mum in town, all the way from the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. She hasn't seen Hunslet since the winter Rugby days back in Bradford so is keen for some nostalgia and a win for Toronto.
RayCee
I see at the Hunslet website, they are promoting travel packages to go to the game. Would a 100 or so take up the deal? My blog: https://rugbyl.blogspot.co.nz/ It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course. It takes reasonableness to end that discussion. Adelaide Tiger
Going back a year or so there was many passionate debates about players not getting time off work; the length of journey; players not having passports; unfair to have semi pro players travelling so far etc .. It would be ineteresting to gauge the reaction of players To show us armchair experts what exactly they think of the experience.
Moc
Nar this cant be true, Parky confirmed that players will hate having to go all that way Its an awful experience going to Canada to play RL - no one in their right mind will be able to enjoy it

hogman
7 Hunslet first teamers are not travelling due to work commitments, criminal records etc. Obviously we have no chance but if it was a vital top of the table clash with nothing between the teams it makes a bit of a mockery of the competition as a whole. East Coast Tiger
Haven't they got some dual reg ring-ins though? Surely that's more of a joke than players not making the trip. And if they're not going because of criminal records it serves them right. Of course Toronto being in this otherwise non-event of a comp has been the biggest thing for its profile ever, but apparently it's all too much for some tired old clubs. Why do so many players in the teams going over have criminal histories?? It just seems amazing that so many players are affected. Surely the rate is above that of the wider community or are the communities they come from crime riddled dumps?

Any criminal records are their personal business and I think should be kept private...we are really looking forward to the game and know that they will do the same as everyone else who has come over...play their total guts out, dedicate themselves to every tackle and go HARD to the very end. Its actually very interesting to watch the visiting sides when they formally come out...every player takes a long hard look at the crowd and you can literally know what they are thinking...this is 'IT'...this is the 'DAY' for me..this is my 'TIME'....I'm leaving it all on the field: THE SPIRIT! Don't worry its going to be an exciting game!

Not surprising tbh - I think there's an argument to be made that RL does a good job in keeping some young men away from crime. Do you think it's much different to the NRL? Seems to me there's plenty of players who can't get a visa to come and work in the UK because of criminal records. It's been called out as one of the obstacles to an NFL franchise in London - some visiting team's star players would be unable to enter the UK. Alffi 7
How has Ryan Bailey been able to play in Toronto, yet so many others are not able to?

If you have a UK passport and don't have a criminal record, you don't need a visa to go to Canada, just got to fill in the online ETA. If you do have a criminal record, you have to go through a different visa process which can take a couple of months. If you're not British, there might be further complications too - I think MoiMoi had to sit out the first couple of home games.
Alffi 7
So as Bailey has a criminal record, he has gone through this different visa process and been accepted - the ones being left behind have either left this too late, or been denied at at that stage? Yeah - you'd think it'd be a lot more hassle for a visa to stay and work than "I'll be over for a long weekend. Might play a bit of footy... Oh, and here's my plane ticket saying when I am out of there"

CanaBull
With criminal records and visa eligibility it depends on a few factors but chiefly it's the seriousness of the crime, its Canadian equivalent and the amount of time since the conviction or end of parole for you to be deemed rehabilitated. All of that is linked from the eTA site. For more serious crimes you have to apply to the immigration ministry for an individual rehabilitation, but that can take a year or more. There are temporary permits which can be granted too if you can show the need for you to be in Canada outweighs the inadmissibility criteria.
