Last 40 years selection

Recommended Posts

After the warm up game v C.A.S. I was thinking how will Mr Bennett field his best team next week, after pondering for a while I went into daydream mode and thought who would I have in my team if I could select the team from the last 30 odd years of watching GB/England International's,  this is what I came up with.

1. Kris Radlinski

2. Des Drummond

3. Garry Connoly

4. Keith Senior

5. Martin Offiah

6. Garry Scohfield

7. Sean Long

8. Sam Burgess

9. James Roby

10. Jamie Peacock

11. Paul Sculthorpe

12. Adrian Morley

13. Andy Farrell

14. Terry Newton

15. Lee Crookes

16. Barrie McDermott

17. Ellery Hanley

Anybody better that.

That's a hell of a pack. I might prefer Hanley to Farrell at loose forward.

In my team Hanley would be the strike player to come if the bench, he could be prominent in any number of positions.

Sounds a good idea. Can you just imagine it?

Isn't there a better centre than Senior? He was OK at club level but I don't recall him ripping any trees up in an international shirt.

senior never troubled the aussies at that level, j.davies or d. powell maybe?

as for lee crooks, what was the difference between him and a dray?

one was a slow old ale cart and the other delivered beer by horse drawn method.

I'd have Hanley in the 13 somewhere. However, 3 top class loose forwards.

4 if you add Sam, but I'd swap Sam for Morley at 12 - think 2nd row is his best position

Hold on, why don't we play one of the 3 loose forwards at 6.......?

Lee Crooks was a great ball handling forward and we haven't produced a better one since.

No place for John Woods in a very forward orientated 17?

Very nearly had him at Full Back, if I recall correctly John Woods played at No1 in the 3 tests in Aus in '79 and was voted by the scribes as GB's best player in that series, but Radlinski played in 30ish games for GB/England mostly at FB and was always consistently good.

I think Davies vs Radlinski is toss up, but in terms of international performances that one at Wembley in 1994 by Davies in attack and defence was something else.
