There’s a Six Nations happening next autumn according to League Express. Unconfirmed, however.

Don't you mean February? You get the tickets, I've got a hamper ;)

Good lord, no.

Says an England side of some description will play in Dublin.

Oh, that's not so exciting. You get the ferry tickets, I'll dust down my boots and shoulder pads

Doesn’t say other than Ireland and England.

I’d assume France, Wales and Scotland plus one other. Italy probably.

Is this the one which includes England A?

This sounds really positive, but an England A is a bit deflating.

True but England will be playing NZ at the same time.

Think this is a great idea it will help other nations get more international experience and if it is England A it will create more competition for the 1st team

No reserve side should play a full international side. It completely devalues those nations and international competition.

Awful idea if true.

A full 6 Nations would be no better though.

Didn't we do this once already anyway? It was hardly a rip-roaring success.

Canada wouldn't mind...we've been devalued by the Yanks for years!!!!  Even our damn currency!

Seriously though, has been done in Union for years and worked well.  Canada does it in hockey all the time and works well for everyone involved.

Completely agree. 'A' sides devalue an aspect of our sport that the critics already think is second-rate - and they wouldnt be wrong if this concept is what is actually planned

This will just make rl look like a poor man's ru to the untrained eye. A 'Six Nations' with the exact same teams and played to smaller crowds and profile.

It would play to larger crowds and profile over here!

I don't think you'd need to play England A though. You'd be better off just playing the rest and selling them as full internationals.

I cannot see how getting stuffed by a reserve team can be good for anyone. It doesn't challenge England, it's too challenging for Canada and it puts a huge highlight on the size of the gulf between the top nations. Why would anyone want to highlight the main weakness of the game?

It will help other nations see how far behind their domestic scene is because it won't attract their top players as it's not a proper international.

It won't challenge England's reserves so they won't even be considered anyway.

It won't attract crowds.

It will highlight the problems with the international game.

It will achieve nothing.

I say this because this is EXACTLY what happened last time, and the fact that it's being considered again is ridiculous.

If England want their reserves to have a test, why don't they play the Aussie reserves or Kiwi reserves? That would be a bigger sell and actually challenge them.

Leave the other nations to actually have proper test matches that have purpose (maybe qualification to a larger tournament) to attract their major stars.

Does an English team have to be involved?

I mean England A/Knight etc won’t bring in extra fans will they?

Sounds like a great idea. Everyone is saying the Celtic Nations and France need more games. Here they are. An emerging. Action will also get games, and they all get to play a Knights team that will stretch them. England versus New Zealand will get the headlines and provide bigger crowds to answer naysayers from outside our sport, but the 6 Nations will provide some visibility that there is some depth to our sport outside of world cups and give other nations the games they need at the right level. Bring on the red button for those.

This. If such a competition was to take place just leave England A out of it completely and let France, Wales, Ireland and Scotland get on with it.
