BBC coverage(again)

Recommended Posts

Just had a look at the BBC website, and there has been no news items for the last 3 days.

Whilst David Woods is no doubt travelling back and is due a good rest following his efforts over the last 6 weeks,I would have thought there might be somebody in the vast organisation to pen a few lines.

Reflections on the World Cup,what happens next to the international game and domestic issues could all be covered.

Is there going to be a shut down now until the week before SL.?

The BBC I am sure are not alone in this news blackout, but as a sport we deserve a bit more.

"Is there going to be a shut down now until the week before SL.?"

No, clearly not. The shut down will last until after the start of SL.

Not sure if your post is a parody or not, but to presume it isn't...If you want news, they reported James Clare signing for Cas yesterday - it's a quiet time of year now, so it's hardly going to be bursting with content is it? Next week's trade papers will noticeably thinner than they were a few months back too.

There is plenty of analysis from the post game, reaction from Tony Smith that this forum has picked up on, and the BBC RL Podcast posted on Monday that covers many of the issues you desire to be covered. There will probably be some sort of end of year review at some point too, but I think you are confusing the BBC sport website for an RL fansite.

Is anywhere else outside of the trade press doing anything of this sort? People were saying Sky Sports's coverage of the WC on their website outshone the Beebs, yet their last analysis of the world cup issues was...err..three days ago as well.

Don't get me wrong there is plenty more the BBC can do, but to complain there isn't enough coverage of a tournament that ended nearly a week ago (but did get analysis in the couple of days that followed) is a little harsh IMO.

But Masterchef the Professionals featured Union players dining at Twickenham. Biased Broadcasting Corporation again.

To be fair they wouldn't be challenged to put on sausage rolls and cheese butties at an England home RL international. Come to think of it, they would struggle to actually find a home RL international!

Agree it stinks though. The Apprentice did a hospitality task at the Women's FA Cup final. See a running theme here for pet projects?

The lead story is now 4 days old.

Your opening post stated there had not been any new items in the last three days, rather than admit your error you have altered your argument. Which stories have occurred since that article that are more newsworthy? Since the initial story of the final there have been at least 8 stories published.

Tennis has Serena Williams signing up for the aussie open, and konta getting a new coach, then a disabilty section 3 days ago and something on Andy Murray becoming a mentor 8 days ago

Formula 1 has something about verstappen earning lots of money, Brazil tightening security and honda reorganising.. then somethign about Kubica 2 days ago

golf is still being played but has only a couple of articles.

Athletics has something about sotherton getting her bronze, "where to watch the euro cross country" a commonwelath games thread and then the next article is from 22nd November

all headline tabs all "out of season" though arguably F1 is doing some testing and needs to get sorted before its pre season testing starts so a fair few announcements are made in the off season.

Rugby League is in a quiet period where international players are on holiday, pre season is just about starting everywhere else and some contracts are probably being negotiated for players from the world cup and transfers in general but even on the Total RL site you can see not a huge amount is happening.. thats how it goes... cant really bemoan the BBC in full football season, Ashes Cricket and sports personality (their pet project) all in full flow to give time to a bit of a "nothing piece"..

To be fair, the RFL probably don't want all the Apprentice candidates coming in and showing them up with how much more professional and organised they are.

"So, you have your small marketing/ticketing team, PR and hospitality partners covering all your events in SL, Championship, Major Trophies, Internationals....?"

"Yep"

"What happens if there is an overlap.."

"Oh, we work hard to ensure that never happens. It's easy if you know how"

Of course. Twickenham is shi-e. So shi-e that when the National Football wasn't available RL had to play the Challenge Cup Final there. And where exactly are next years games against New Zealand being played? Lower Ince Working Men'

s club car park?

No. There will be a huge story concerning a key player moving from Rugby to union on the opening day.

a couple of articles over the weekend about signings and contract extensions.. lets be fair to the BBC here if they really didnt want to they didnt need to publish either of those stories as to anyone outside RL they arent that interesting as not concerning anyone "big".
