Clueless. Reports suggest that more people watch and also play Rugby League than ever before. theres a number of NRL players that came up through the Victorian RL System. Also you think the NRL would get as much sponsorship, Government and TV Money just having a Sydney based Comp? The Evidence suggests that the Storm, Raiders, Cowboys, Broncos, Warriors, Titans help add 10s of millions for the game. The fact is that the Storm average near 20K and have a membership of over 20k. Storm also have a massive Sponsorship that many Sydney Clubs are not even close to.

Lets keep RL a local Sport for Local People. Funny how International Sport is where the money is as is growing a Product. Yes there will be some errors on the way. But the game in Sydney is a joke as are a number of Clubs including the Rabbits. I suppose the 40K in Perth is not worth anything when Souths can get 6K like last year for a home game...

Nice rant there.

I'll tell you one thing mate if that "Joke" of a club South Sydney had the squads Melbourne have had over the past 20 years they'll likely be in excess of 50,000 members. Yet there rubbish and still far better supported than the storm (oh how that must burn you).

I'll be sticking around hear on TRL because I eagerly await the excuses when Melbourne eventually slide down the ladder.

In the interest of perspective.

Now that's a figure to aim for!

NRL clubs would love to have the problem of fitting all those in to their grounds. Still not all members go to every game.

Even ANZ would have atmosphere for a league game if it had that sort of number in it!

Back to reality:

Storm continue to lift their numbers. Is 25,000 attainable or not this season?

As of today:

So kicking on from 20,000 last season and setting the target of 25,000 Storm have gained half the number of extra members they are aiming for.

Latest membership news from Storm a link to which was posted elsewhere on the forum by Blotto:

Quote

Melbourne Storm is today proud to announce it has surpassed 25,000 members for the first time in the Club's history.

It's the eighth consecutive season Storm have broken their membership record, a period in which the Club reached a Preliminary Final in 2015 and back-to-back grand finals, including a Premiership in 2017.

The official current tally of 25,100 is the fourth highest membership base in the NRL.

The rise in membership has coincided with Melbourne Storm being the second most watched sporting Club on Australia television, with a cumulative TV audience of 17.5 million across Channel Nine and Fox Sports in 2017.

Average attendances at Melbourne Storm home games have also grown year on year for the last five consecutive seasons.
