I disagree. Powell is a good 80 minute hooker. He was nulified by playing 20 minutes a half. He's fit as a fiddle, makes a ton of tackles and is (at least compared to the team he's in) low on the error count. I'd like Tommy to retire and go into coaching have Powell as an 80 minute hooker. Look at all the sucessful teams these days, they all have 80 minute hookers. When Wigan won the GF in 2016 Powell was playing the full 80 minutes. It gives you the option to go bigger with your bench too.

He maybe an 80 min player but he offers very little attacking threat from dummy half and which bigger explosive players do Wigan have to fill up the bench, hands like feet Tautai, sorry but Powell is a typical Wane player, steady and unspectacular and that's why they are going backwards at an alarming rate and the style of rugby is so poor. barnyia
I think wigan are struggling due to having the same macguire game plan in place for a good few years and using it all through the club from u 16 to first team , the players became robots and couldn't play heads up rugby, so the players coming through are used to the robotic rugby that wigan are trying move on from, so playing heads up rugby is difficult for them, kids here in my team are at the pole espoir( rugby and schooling at the same college) and they've less flair now than when they started there as they're taught robotic rugby, they can only play with block plays and struggle to create or do 3 v2 drills without a block play, but im way off being an expert! It's just my opinion

You can have Aiton starting the game, sub in McIlorum at 9, Aiton slides in at 13. Also, if Baitieri gets the nod at 13 ahead of Garcia it's an injustice. They would do better there than Baitieri. Rotating McIlorum and Aiton at hooker, with Bird and Baitieri rotated at 13, makes more sense.

Given the reality of injury in RL as a Fan I'm just happy Cats have signed a class player to boost the squad. It's been a good offseason. One more half back please. Kevin brown would be ideal. Or Fages if he came up.
audois
Interesting front row choices in 2018. Moa and Casty in pole position both in early 30’s – the Tongan didn’t play a lot NRL so maybe still something in the tank while skipper Casty has struggled to find the form which earned him a Roosters stint. Then there’s Bousquet and the returning Maria who did well at Leigh add in Margalet who was an unsung hero last term in a malfunctioning squad. Took time to get going as he first appeared in 2013 - total games just 25 in five years. He’s has no size but worked his socks off last season to be heard. Seguier and Belmas behind this group just out of Academy with each a handful of SL appearances. The latter a year older and was included in the French WC squad. Size doesn’t seem to be an issue with this pair while teenage props Vailhen and Rouge too have been handed professional contracts after impressing in the U19s in 2017. If only Catalans had this competition elsewhere. "It involves matters much greater than drafting the new rules...the original and existing games have their own powerful appeal to their players and public and have the sentiments which history inspires" - Harold 'Jersey' Flegg 1933 "Just as we had been Cathars, we were treizistes, men apart."

Evil Homer
Squad numbers released http://www.catalansdragons.com/articles-9/164-5547-les-numeros-de-squad-2018-devoiles/ Hope to hell they don't actually go with Walsh and Langi in the halves or it's another million pound game incoming. Also Thornley should be nowhere near the team and Perez really needs to leave the club. Good to see Mourgue get a squad number.

I think he looks a decent player too but he needs regular first team football to develop at the moment he's just static. Like you pleased to see Morgue with a squad number players like him, Fages and Albert are the future for France at half back. He's really got that x factor about him, similar to a Danny McGuire type player let's see how he develops.

I'm not sure how accurate the numbers are. I mean Julien Imo is very likely to be first 17 player, ahead of Duport and Micky Mac didn't get signed to not be in the 17 either. Thornley and Williame I would not see as sure things for the first 17. With injuries and the age / general tendency of Cats to whither as the season goes on, a big squad of quality talent is vital...once there's a few injuries you need the decent reserves to step up. Another half back would be nice if they can find one, or give young Lucas a few games to prove himself. All In all looks a much better squad that last year. Now if they can get Gigot and Pelliser back for later in the year all the better!
Old Frightful
After talks with Canberra Raiders, Mickey McIlorum reveals the reason he opted to stay in SL... Woof! With Halloween coming up I decided to go to my local fancy dress shop to see if I could get a Dracula costume. After a few minutes the assistant handed me a Hull KR shirt asking "Is this suitable?", I replied "I think you may have misheard me, I said I wanted to look like a count."
