In bold the highly questionnable choices, especially Langi at 6. The rest is... weird? Anderson over Jullien is straight madness, Margalet ahead of Maria is... wait what?

Perez is dead here, might as well sign anywhere else.

Dont pay too much attention to squad numbers. All teams will have players who get a starting squad number but won't play there/be first choice.

The big overhaul at Brutus could be significant in 2018. Not seen before where in quick time the Dragons coach and his two assistants have departed as well their conditioner too. McNamara putting down his marker. Will the following be as significant as the arrivals of Mead and McILorum – Frenchmen Loic Louit and Maxence Riviere put in charge of conditioning and a new post of performance director in Richard Hunwicks – who has been with the England team in the WC – maybe with an overseeing role. On top of that physio Rob Parkinson has joined the expanding off-the-field team. Catalans too many players carrying injuries last term - weeks on end Bird, Tierney and Wiliame had knees strapped up. As well as lacking pace where they just not fit enough? Only one assistant coach so far announced in young Frenchmen Oliver Janzac – rated here after securing back to back championships with Limoux. Interesting times.

McNamara said Langi would actually be starting at 6.

Yeah that is appalling he a career 2nd tier player for a reason he utter ######. Wonder how Lucas Albert feels. For that matter many of the french in squad.

On those number only three in starting 13. And 7 overall if everyone fit.

Gone of the Robbo days and even Mick potter of 12 local lads in 17.

Anderson should be in elite his days are done. Julian would not have swapped clubs to play elite. Even thornley utter ###### over duport or tierney

David Mead is getting a big build up in some of the season previews I’m reading.

Could he really have the impact in Super League that some are predicting?

I think so. He’ll get more space in SL and his running game and footwork is explosive. He should organise Catalans defence better at the back too

Rumour is Monaghan is coming back after his other role fell through. You hearing that over there?

Are we going to see more French players getting gametime this season?? The likes of mourgue and gambaro may see little 1st action because of their age but surely it’s about time that players like Albert, margalet, Romano and Perez were given a chance and a good run of games to see if they can cut it in super league.

Some are saying that for this season they are going for more of a French core.

If that’s true then you might get your wish, which can only be good for the development of the French national team.

I guess the biggest challenge for McNamara is melding together a fair few new faces into a team.

There’s definitely an opening for Romano in the centres with no gigot and the poor form of thornley. Same goes for Albert in the halves with Myler gone and again poor form of Walsh. Margalet who looks quite decent you’d think could make the bench and Perez just looks like a squad member who’ll maybe see some 1st team action if forwards are out injured or suspended.

Wondering whether something like that might crop up. The Federation wanting to keep Janzac to contract apparently so McNamara presently depending on Hunwicks with Bosc helping out.

This is a team which has a strong forward pack (including reserves) and a very strong back 3 (with Tierney as reserve), but which is uncertain as to the performance of the halves, and weak in the centres. Now if only Tony Gigot could win his appeal against his ban, then the club could slot him right into the centres in place of Thornleigh, and the team would suddenly look threatening to the big boys. Mind you, if the halves do work out well, then the team might still threaten the big boys, especially at Gilbert Brutus.

6. Langi, unproven at this level.
7. Walsh, past his best and injury prone.

Back up : Albert, unproven at this level. The halves do look like the weakest point.

If (when?) Walsh injures himself and either Langi or Albert aren't cutting it, we're in trouble.

That being said, in McNamara's system we might not need decent halves.

Thornley is a better centre than winger so maybe he'll do fine this year, defo time for Romano though.
