referees

At the Salford V Swinton  friendly today we had a young ref.

It occurred to me that the best way for all these new boys to gain SL Experience would be to allocate these games to non Sl refs.  The gmes have nothing but pride riding on them

All the WC officials are still on a break & don't start officiating until next week.

The RFL tend to use pre season / trial games as both warm ups for the officials and to test the odd one out at a higher level

It is high time that 3-4 French referees were brought into the system. It should be the norm to have a French referee at Championship and League One games. If Elite One in France is going to be disrupted by this, then let some of the UK young referees ref in France too. We have to throw the net wider and also help our neighbours. It also helps the establishment of more neutral referees.

Getting refs over is hard.  Refs tend to peak at ages 35-40, unlike players, who do so much sooner.

The older one gets, the less likely they are to uproot their lives, families etc. for something that ultimately, won't even pay that well anyway.

No one has to move anywhere in 2018. You just go over for a block of time and officiate some games. Same with UK refs in France. There will be at least 28 UK competition fixtures in France this year.

They have been back in training for a while. They are on a training camp at present with a number of the part time officials.
