not seen this mentioned unless I missed it but Aviva have awarded £25000 to Cramlington Rockets to develop the game in Northumberland.

Could they be warming to our code ?

They know where the growth is going to happen...they have crunched the numbers.

Cramlington have been, from what I've read here and elsewhere, doing great grass-roots work. At their level, £25,000 will give them the ability to do much more. Fantastic news!

Not clear on what you mean

They are an insurance company right...so they know the numbers and a little about a return on an investment...take the money!

Aviva do a grassroots funding thing every year for sports clubs. Clubs have to put themselves forward for it and explain why they deserve it. Then the public vote. Those with the most votes win money. Shevington Sharks were also on there this year. It’s a shame there wasn’t a thread on here encouraging people to vote (by the time I’d seen it, it was too late :( )

For Aviva, it is a tiny sum. At that level of RL, it'll go a long way. Good for both parties.

I saw the Shevington one over at LU. I found it strange that they went to an Australian forum but didn’t ask for votes on here.

No, I only caught it late in the campaign. I think it was just after I got back from NZ in mid November IIRC.I love to push things like this Kman where the RL community can unite to gain grants for the sport.

So, we all keep our eyes peeled for early announcements of next year's competition and do our best to boost a deserving candidate, right?

For the sake of accuracy, let me point out that many large companies - especially but not exclusively in the financial sector - have a grant-making, but arms-length, charitable trust that offers grant aid to worthy (typically community) projects.

So it is not Aviva themselves, but the Aviva Community Fund, which has made this wonderful grant to Cramlington; well done the Rockets!

There are many grant-making trusts which exist only to offer funding support to worthy projects; I see one estimate is that there are over 4,500 such trusts, collectively offering over £6 billion in grants per annum.  No doubt the vast majority will have no interest in funding rugby league, but a few might; they need to be identified and encouraged!

I suspect (but do not know for sure) that RL is not very geared up to tapping in to much of this largesse.  Perhaps the RFL should have a specialist in this area in post, to support the grassroots game; better still, get a grant from one of these trusts to fund such a post!

Yes, we can’t help a club achieve their aim for a grant if there isn’t an application to support.

Great news!  Thanks for that.  I am delighted to stand corrected!
