The World Series is a waste of time.

The World Club Challenge is not.

The other games are practically friendlies that cost our game money.

As stated in previous threads the WCC needs to be used in a way that it is THE prestige game on the Calendar. As part of an expanded comp that at some stage includes French, PNG Hunters or others or to be used in various locations like Jacksonville, Dubai, Toronto. Adding two friendlies where fans and players can't be ar$ed is not the way forward.

Which two friendlies are you talking about?

There was not Series this year, Wigan and Hull just arranged their own friendlies.

I agree the 2 games before the WCC are a waste of time. The only way a series could work is if it was a knockout comp but we tried that in 1997 and it failed.

Id play the WCC at a neutral venue such as Dubai, Toronto, NYC, China etc and play it under international rules

We should maybe judge the WCS over the years it was actually played.

For some odd reason the clubs supported undermining the WCS with the games this morning.

I enjoyed the real WCS each year even when we lost.

The games this morning were not World Club Series, some of Aussies for reason's best known to themselves decided to call these games that.

The Wigan game in particular was totally undermined by the Cameltoes deciding to turn it into a farce and then Wigan decided it would be a good run out for all the young lads since it was going to be a nonsense game.

To be fair i think it was called International Club Challenge or something.

But when they were badged WCS and official games via the governing bodies we didnt have that issue.

Its a shame as the Hull game was a cracker and the Wigan headline game not so.

The Hull game was very good entertainment and the Wigan game could have been if the Aussies didn't decide to play silly buggers. Nevertheless a good experience for the young Wigan players that got the chance of international sporting travel and showed them that the future may hold experiences of other international destinations.

To be fair to Souths it’s not there fault Wigan we’re awful. With Wigan losing to a reserve grade team you could make the case they undermined it

The games were enjoyable and entertaining. So there is a point to all this and the international club friendlies.

Wigan seem like they have some depth with these kids. Definitely top 4 this year and potential to sneak to the final..

WCC with staggered entry and one entrant from each country with a professional club would be doable IMO and make it more of a feel gpod tournament even if it is Australia V England finals every time.

An example of what we could see in a few years if proposed new sides come to life.

Week 1 - North Wales V Euro Wilcard & Wolfpack V Boston

Week 2 - PNG Hunters V Fiji NSW Cup & North Wales V Wolfpack

Week 3 - Catalan & Warriors enter

Week 4 - Leeds & Storm enter.

Week 5 - Final

Would obviously make for better variety if we come to have more competition for the place in Canada, France, USA, NZ etc.

Also the crowd was very healthy, it was bigger than most NRL games at the ANZ you will see this year.

Crowd was reported as 18,721 for the double header.

It looked less but hard to gauge in a big Stadium.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Am not really arguing in principle, but the problem is that the last time this was tried, your English teams received an absolute leathering. It was totally humiliating, they were shown up as being really unprofessional.

The RFL and NRL need to determine what the WCC stands for (pardon the pun).

Is it a fixture to determine the best club side in the world?

If yes, then the two seasons need absolute alignment, with GFs on the same weekend and a WCC played a fortnight after clubs are crowned domestic champs.

If no, then there are really endless options like running a pre-season comp for the top 16 or top 8 of each last domestic season.

Just don't expect clubs to take anything 100% seriously other than an end of season WCC between the respective champions.

Basically, Melbourne, Souths and St. George/Illawarra won their first pre-season friendlies against sides already two games into their regular season and with two of them having been in Oz long enough to get over the jet-lag and acclimatise (a luxury Leeds didn't have). Just making a point, haven't a clue what we can do about it.

I love it every year win lose or draw. Just the usual dour RL fan complaints from the OP.

I have enjoyed the games agin the Aussie club teams, despite the results at times. Then again, I like sport with an international dimension and see it as important for the future of rugby, even if there isn't currently a settled format in place.

Did you actually note the Wigan team was for a very large part of that game. The Wigan starting line-up had no motivation for this game since the soft @rsed Aussies decided they wanted the cash but not a contest, on the other hand Souths team had a lot of motivation, playing for places and to impress the new boss. Wigan also played the game with a very large number of reserve grade players, in fact since they had a similar motivation to the young Souths players the second half was extremely tight.

If Souths didn't want a competitive game they shouldn't have taken up the challenge. They screwed this up big style as a sporting spectacle. If they had put out a proper team the whole game would have been completely different.

The part in bold is nonsense.

1) They didn't cost the game anything. Not a penny. They actually MADE the clubs a significant amount of money and got a lot of media attention.

2) They ARE friendlies. They were never packaged as anything else. It was a tour game. A chance to test yourself against a higher level.

If clubs feel they can benefit from this higher intensity, and if this is the only time they can achieve that, AND it doesn't cost any money or affect the fixture list, then what's the problem?

Seriously, who lost out because of the games this weekend? Who?

Whatever happened to the rivalry between the two nations there is generally a bit of spice when we play the aussies but I didn’t see it . I’m not advocating biff .. I know those days are long gone but the odd show of distaste does set the tone and give the occasion something,,,, just a thought
