It worked for Soccer.

British Soccer was in the doldrums after being do succesful in the 70's and early 80's by the late 80's early 90's it had become probably one of the worst major leagues in Europe. Once the Premier League took over it went from strength to strength although it still took quite a while to catch up to continental leagues.

That's hardly comparing like for like.

Hmmm ... interesting.

Nothing to do with the Taylor Report, Euro 96 and the successful rebranding *by fans* of the game?

It was entirely the breakaway?

This is the problem . Premier League isn’t football and SL isn’t rugby league , although they seem to want to believe they are and the rest is in pushed into the shadows . Below SL  needs  much more exposure attention and support for the all round good of the game

It's a bit ironic that one of the key points they are saying that make a 'breakaway' worthwhile is

Quote

Ensuring a healthy and stable system for existing rugby league clubs to grow organically and continue developing the player pool

One of the most debilitating problems in RL is the constant, endless and confusing changes that come along every couple of years

We need stability - so let's change it again... (until the next change in a couple of years)

I love the expression "grow organically" when used by journalists with zero experience of business. It usually means "they need to generate more income and interest but I personally have no idea how they might go about this".

If such a change were introduced over a phased period then those clubs below SL might be able to find a way to survive. If it is a sudden and rapid change then the majority will close, in their current form.

You hear phrases in this management speak a lot nowadays and it often seems a lot of clever words that don’t say or explain much !

'Synergistic dovetailing' was a favourite phrase to justify any changes at my last place of employment....

The ‘ bandwidth ‘ not being there to discuss an issue while brexit is going on is going great guns with politicians at the minute and downsizing to streamline is all the rage when things get cut
