Yorkshire have just lost by an innings to Surrey.

Surrey!

I'd rather lose by an innings to Lancashire.

Ireland putting on a seventh wicket stand of nearly 100.

They have a lead of 60+ with 4 wickets left going into the final day.

Pakistan should still win here of course, but if the Irish tail can wag until lunch tomorrow and take a couple of early wickets there could be a bit of excitement.

Ireland now 273/7 with a lead of 93 going into the final day.

Stumps at Dublin and Ireland have had a good day after being made to follow on by Pakistan.

The Irish finished 319/7 with a lead of 139 going into the last day.

Kevin O’Brien made an unbeaten 118 off 216 balls with 12 fours.

Can the tail wag tomorrow?

I'm pleased for Ireland that they've competed in this match, even though they are likely to lose it. They'll have learnt a lot from the whole experience, but in particular that they let Pakistan off the hook a bit at ethe end of their innings and then had an attack of nerves against decent bowlers when they batted first time around.

You want to know how monumentally dumb the people running cricket are at the minute?

I mean, aside from Colin Graves getting up and saying that young people don't like the game and that's understandable.

Aside from that.

Want to know?

Look for Ireland's fixtures in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

You would have thought that the ideal number of teams would be 16 if possible so you can have 4 groups of four teams.

I know only 14 played last time, but you’d think that expanding and finding two more associate members would be the way forward.

I guess though money and greed has got in the way and TV demanded a different path.

I've entered the ballot for a couple of games, not that bothered if I get in or not.

The thing that struck me though was how obviously valuable India are. The prices for their games are eye-watering. No wonder the cash-mad ICC and friends want to rig the system to keep them - and not quite as valuable but still juicy England and Australia - in for as long as possible.

After a decent start to the day reducing Pakistan to 14/3, brave Ireland fell to a decent knock from Imam ul-Haq who is related to Inzamam ul-Haq - the great player of the 90s, 00s for the tourists.

Roll on the test series with England.

Courtesy of not watching Sky and England's desperate search for a spinner who isn't injured?

Shouldn’t have treated Rashid so disgracefully and pushed him out then until he’d had enough .

I agree. Rashid's talent has been wasted - he's a genuine wicket taker and I really don't understand why he didn't keep getting picked.

The selection of Buttler is ridiculous; he's been bashing it around in India but has barely played 4 day cricket. I hope he proves me wrong but I worry about his lack of experience at playing the long game.

Lots of people in and around the game have been equally bemused . To often scapegoated and the first one to carry the can while the same old same old favoured few carry on regardless . And then when he finally nailed it and matured into a very good wicket taker and all round cricketer they still dumped him . Interesting crack with root at Yorkshire i bet . Buttler is a bit odd in some ways - he’s coming in as a specialist bat in tests , which is alien to everything he’s been doing , and before it often didn’t work and he struggled to get going . Exciting though and a bit of xfactor if he nails it so good luck to him . Wood needs to play , the sameness of our seamers is depressing

Some talk of a possible breakaway by the counties.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/44148246

A 16 game Championship, some form of 50 over competition and a cash-cow T20 (which, despite the ECB's bluster we do have). It shouldn't be that hard to oversee a domestic season with all that.

The counties will never be the IPL because we don't have a billion cricket mad Indians wanting to fill massive grounds and it won't ever be the Big Bash because 80% of our population doesn't live in a handful of cities.

Graves has to go and anyone who signed off on The Hundred or who genuinely believes an IPL in England is just a form of marketing away needs to follow him.

How do we get you to run the ECB? That's about the pithiest statement of what ought to be the bleeding obvious that I've read anywhere this week. There was a cracking article in the Guardian yesterday that speculated that Graves' problem is that *he* doesn't like cricket, never mind the kids....

Although I'd add to that a womens' game that actually plays the same format as they do in international competition.....which the new masterplan unaccountably won't have.....
