my missus
i think people should be having a good look at how they will get back to manchester area on sunday as i have been told there are no trains at all. Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes I can barely define the shape of this moment in time(roger waters)
meast
Just been looking myself, last train back to Huddersfield is 21.44 from Newcastle, but with a change in York that is 6 hours, arriving in Huddersfield at 06.06! Failing that, there is one at 18.29, which means missing the entire Hull derby, although there are a couple of trains from Leeds Huddersfield Giants Supporters Association
thunderpete
According to the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner site there is a train at 20.00 from Newcastle arriving at Manchester Piccadilly at 23.16.

Old Frightful
Drive up Saturday morning, drive back Monday morning. There's four of us so instead of paying around £280 on return rail travel between us we'll spend less than £50 on fuel between us. And get there and leave whenever it suits us. I love travelling by train but the saving makes having to put up with RoyBoy for two and a half hours each way just about bearable. With Halloween coming up I decided to go to my local fancy dress shop to see if I could get a Dracula costume. After a few minutes the assistant handed me a Hull KR shirt asking "Is this suitable?", I replied "I think you may have misheard me, I said I wanted to look like a count." We get too obsessed by our so called greatest game which may well be more compelling spectacle on the pitch, but obviously that ain't that important. I have been to all the Magic Weekends at St James’ Park and I go to most Thunder home games. i went to the Falcons game on Saturday. It was much more of an event than the Magic. It helped that it was a local team playing so people decided who they were going to support and did so accordingly. The atmosphere was good. Most of the 30k there were actually watching the game. At Magic, I would say only about 10-15k watch intently when their team is playing. There are too many people just milling around. People get bored watching more than 2 games even me. There is a lot of goodwill towards RL at The Falcons . Their owner owns the Thunder too. One of the directors of the event played for Leigh Rangers and Gateshead Panthers. A downside for Magic with the success at the weekend is The Falcons might be in a semi final the same weekend. This will effect the crowd numbers. On the upside. I think if Newcastle Thunder were ever in Super League again, or if there was an England Test against NZ or Australia, I think they could get over 30,000 to turn up at an event at SJP. That's great, but I guess my point was: That whilst we watch the game, we don't analyse and dissect it, as I meant in my comment "focus/watch every aspect". Just trying to make the point to another comment, namely "I’d always like to ask these hordes why they turn out as it’s really a poor watch". My point being that how compelling a spectacle on the pitch a sport is may not be a priority as to why one attends. That is to the average fan with an interest in sport and enjoying a social and enjoyable sporting occasion as distinct from a enthusiastic fan of a specific sport. We get, as in RL fans, obsessed in thinking because we think RL is the TGG and may well provide a greater spectacle that it should therefore be obviously a bigger attraction - As surely its the major reason for attending a sporting event. My suggestion was that it isn't a priority as to why someone attends a sporting event.

There’s another thread about “missing the boat” which I was thinking about too.
