Match Thread - Featherstone Rovers v Leigh Centurions Saturday May 19th 2018

Not good that

Totaly shambolic 1st half, gave it a go in the 2nd half when the game was done and the pressure was off

Leigh were too good all over the park today - they were deserved winners, Hutchison played in a dinner suit today

Hope Riddy is not too badly hurt, next week is huge now

After that, I don't think we are anywhere near good enough to be in the top 4 this year. Leigh were nothing special today, got 4 tries off the back of penalties. We were soft in defence and had no clue in attack. 3 times on trott we've switched off now. Having to rely on DR more than ever now with Farrell and Riddy out. We need a reserve team yesterday. We we're tired for last 15 minutes. Thought the ref had a good game as well, best ref we've had down at POR. Let's all have a good day out at Blackpool next week and worry not about the Blackpool curse. ?

Poor show, as I predicted.  That Hull game will have knocked the hell out of the lads.  Can we just not bother with the cup in future?

Leigh were nothing special today, a fit and fresh Rovers could and should have won that.

To cap it all we've got injuries to Farrell and Riddy.

What happened with Riddy?  Was he taken out off the ball?

Yes late shot - looked like a shoulder/arm injury

Nothing special? They were head and shoulders above us and would have been much better even at our best. In parts reminded me of Wigan on the 80s where they'd soak up pressure for 10-15 mins and then hit you with a couple of tries when they got the ball.

Ridyard didn't look good in the bar afterwards, holding his arm very awkwardly. Not sure if it was him who went off in the ambulance as we were leaving. Farrell reported as already being at the hospital.

And Knowles had a fair limp too

A bit of perspective needed here I think. Assuming all goes to form with the fixtures tomorrow there will be 4 teams on 4 losses and 1 on 5 losses. The team on 5 losses is Leigh with 2 fixtures v Toronto and a trip to Toulouse to come. We have Fax twice to play so it is very much in our own hands. I know it is if, buts and maybe's but if we simply match or better Leigh's results we are in the 4. We are not yet relying on any other team beating any other, so it is still in our hands and if we can't beat the teams from 6th downwards then we don't deserve to be in the 4.

Playing well are Leigh. They soaked up the first twenty minutes then the speed of their play the balls had our defence all over the pitch. Our goal line defence has been suspect for ages and the full time teams can exploit it for what it is. We've got fancy football with no penetration. However most of us had this down for a defeat but its the affects on confidence for later games that it affects.

Yes Leigh played well , but still if that final pass to Briscoe had not been ruled forward who knows what the last 20 or so minutes would have been. It was penalties that killed us, as I didn't think they were 20 + points than us.

We do need a second team, especially now as we seem to be down to the bare bones.

I thought we actually played ok but Leigh played better than us and deserved their victory simple as that .Its no coincidence that all our losses have come against full time Teams which means that to finish in the Top two next year we have to go full time ,add quality players to a nucleus of our own and then we have a very good chance of achieving this.If we don’t do this then we will be as we are every year ; a good Team that punches above its weight but generally gets beat against the Full timers which isn’t anything to be embarrassed about is it?, but obviously its down to finances at the end of the day.On the injury front they are part and parcel of this game and its a case of Thacks back and Davies back to replace the two .Incidentally Davies cant turn into a bad player overnight and wasnt Thacks player of the season last year? Are we really too good a Team to leave these two out? .We roll on forward to a very important game next week with history against us but you never know.

Can’t argue with that scoreline we were nowhere near them , Holmes probed And Robinson had a go . Up front we were second best they will be confident they can get something against Toronto on that form. They are in a purple patch at miniute.. as for us we need to regroup and quick .. there can be no excuses the squad as been assembled at some cost .. the lack of ideas with the ball and the nothing kick at the end of the set is worrying.. this duel reg focus is not for me with the likes of thacks Davies and moore ( if he’s fit) kicking there heels we have the players .. oh and thank god the talk of that bloody try records gone now let’s get back to business

Thackeray is a complete waste of talent on the side lines and when he's in he is pushed from pillar to post. The problem is that his ideal place is filled with talent also. The thing is now he may find his way back if Ridyards injury keeps him out.

if you're going to judge expectations by cost of squad, which seems fair enough, then there's every excuse for last night's defeat, they have probably spent more than twice as much on their squad as we have on ours.

How much was the parachute payment they got?

So in truth they got a parachute payment that is probably more than we spent on our entire squad?

And then there's the poor sods below us who have to scrape by on a pittance. And don't have a club like Leeds to fall back on. Talk about uneven playing field. It will also get worse when Wigan St Helens and Hull K R get their way.

HKR, are they merging with Hull FC?
