Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels

Thursday 7.50pm at Suncorp Stadium

Broncos: 1 Darius Boyd (c), 2 Corey Oates, 3 James Roberts, 4 Jordan Kahu, 5 Jamayne Isaako, 6 Anthony Milford, 7 Kodi Nikorima, 8 Matthew Lodge, 9 Andrew McCullough, 10 Sam Thaiday, 11 Tevita Pangai jnr, 12 Jaydn Su'A, 13 Joe Ofahengaue

Interchange: 14 Sam Tagataese, 15 George Fai, 16 Kotoni Staggs, 17 Patrick Mago

Reserves: 18 Tom Opacic, 21 David Fifita

Centre Jordan Kahu makes his return from a broken jaw at centre in place of Tom Opacic, who drops to the reserves with last week's impressive debutant Kotoni Staggs retaining his bench spot. George Fai replaces Korbin Sims (broken jaw) on the bench. Troy Dargan and Josh McGuire were the two players dropped from the reserves list 24 hours out from kick-off.

Eels: 1 Corey Norman, 2 Bevan French, 3 Michael Jennings, 4 Brad Takairangi, 5 George Jennings, 6 Clint Gutherson (c), 7 Mitchell Moses, 8 Daniel Alvaro, 9 Cameron King, 10 Siosaia Vave, 11 Manu Ma'u, 12 Tepai Moeroa, 13 Peni Terepo

Interchange: 14 Will Smith, 15 Suaia Matagi, 16 David Gower, 17 Marata Niukore

Reserves: 20 Kane Evans, 21 Josh Hoffman

Brad Arthur has finally lost patience with his underperforming team and swapped fullback Clint Gutherson with five-eighth Corey Norman. Beau Scott's season-ending ACL injury forces a reshuffle with Manu Ma'u moving back to second row, Peni Terepo to lock and Siosaia Vave recalled at prop. Raymond Stone and Jaeman Salmon were omitted from the squad 24 hours before kick-off.

If Eels are to do anything about this poor season they are having they have to start now  and continue winning.

They have shaken up the team in the hope of shaking up their form.

The talk surrounding Broncos this week has largely centred on their sounding out of Craig Bellamy to see iof he might be interested in taking over from Wayne Bennett.

Wayne Bennett will coach his 800th NRL match, with his future at the Broncos under a cloud given the controversy surrounding the club’s approach to Craig Bellamy to join the club. Bennett is under siege, but that is just the way he likes it and the Broncos will be primed to make this milestone match a good one for their coach.

Just coming up to half time.

12-0 Broncos

Just got back in. Seems Broncos defence has been good absorbing all the Eels pressure.

Brisbane Broncos 12 - 2 Parramatta Eels

The last five minutes has seen scrappy, error strewn and broken up.

Eels looking better . Unlucky with one or two decisions.

Roberts limped off the pitch.

I seem to want Eels to win this despite tipping Broncos

IPenalty to Brisbane for blocking. How ironic given that Eels didn’t get that ten minutes ago.

Just seems that Broncos will win but not playing that well.

18-10 Brisbane

Eels denied for a forward pass. Unlucky.

That’s how it goes when you are struggling.

That would have fired the game up.

Brisbane 18 - 10 Parramatta

Job done for Broncos, but not at their best. Hard luck Eels you probably deserved a bit more from that game.

  • Thanks 1

Missed most of that then got distracted towards the end. No surprise. I'll check my arithmetic later but I think Eels can only afford one more loss this season to make the Finals. Might be two but I think the exact number is probably irrelevant.

I think you are right. I reckon it was two before this loss FD.

They have some great attacking players but as a team they are just not clicking.

You watch, once they mathematically can’t get into the finals they’ll start winning.
