Catalans U19 over

Recommended Posts

Reported in yesterdays 'L'Independent' newspaper.Says the players were informed on Thursday. Nothing on the clubs web site. Existing team to turn-up at the U23s next season à la Mickael Goudemand. The bloke who ran the operation from the beginning Dumaine left mid-season. The club do have an existing U19s which runs alongside the Academy team and plays in the local comp. Maybe a decade back Catalans ran a side in conjunction with the Federation and played a series of games against English sides. That was when you could also include several over-age players. Of course Hull FC/KR have rationalised their set-up with the new City of Hull entity. What was the rational by the NRL clubs to close-down their U20's set-up?

There was a bit in the local paper last week that former Dragons player Julian Touxagas would lead a small team responsible for developent and formation. Can't believe McNamara would be in favour of seeing the youth-side of the game just neglected. His involvement with England showed that. Maybe they want to see a different approach. Would a joint project tied-in with Toulouse work?

Can't see Toulouse wanting to get involved with that lot

If Wane is going over then that certainly wouldn't suit the approach he has taken with Wigan.

Confirmed this morning.

Catalans will field a U23 team (younger than this year's) in Elite 1 and a U19 side in Elite 2.

They say that anyway, French U19 players go back to Elite 1 before playing SL as they're not ready yet. They've been under fire from the other French clubs that the Academy was "stealing" players.

That and the fact that the travel is super exonerous.

EDIT : The U23 club will kick out any player older than 22 that hasn't made it to SL yet, excepted 4 older players supposed to act as mentors.

I would think that means it's bye bye for Ugo Perez, Thomas Ambert, Thibault Margalet, Joan Guasch.....anyone I've missed?
