Tale Of Two Halves As Reserves Defeated

Bradford Bulls Reserves 51-28 Keighley Cougars Reserves Match Report by Joshua Chapman (@JRCSport)

COUGARS Reserves fell to defeat at the hands of arch rivals Bradford in a game of two halves.

After a disastrous first-half, the Cougars rallied in the second half to get back into the game and push an experienced Bulls side to the very end.

It appeared that Scott Lindsey’s side were set to be on for a routing after they conceded three tries in the opening 6 minutes of the game.

Jack Wilson, Jake Lightowler and Max Trueman all took advantage of poor Keighley defending to put the hosts into an early 16 point lead.

The Cougars then switched on and got themselves back into the game momentarily with Hunslet pair Darren Williams and Marcus Elliott both finding the line either side of Lightowler’s second for the Bulls.

However, Bradford finished the half stronger and scored four more tries as Murphy Smith scored a double in the corner before efforts from Jordan Andrade and then an acrobatic diving score from Elliott Culling.

Half-time seemed to come at the right time for the Cougars who were the far better side in the second half and had Bradford on the ropes whilst threatening to turn the scoreboard around completely.

Michael Nuttall made it a hat-trick for the Hunslet boys as he touched down a superb grubber in-goal from Elliott.

Hunslet Head Coach Gary Thornton was then left beaming as Elliott scored his second of the evening for the Cougars after chasing down his own kick and forcing an error from the Bulls full-back.

The Cougars onslaught continued and after pressure from Jak Adams forced another Bradford handling error, Bradley Clarkson picked up the loose ball to dive over next to the uprights.

Keighley had two chances to close the gap on the scoreboard even further but Patrick Noutch knocked on at the crucial moment with Aaron Nowell just fingertips away from touching down another Elliott goal.

But, Bradford would wrap the game up with two late scores the first of which was a drop goal from Jack Wilson.

Culling then scored his second of the evening after breaking from the restart.
