They do. I'll add them shortly. May as well let everybody see them. Might jog a few useful memories!

The four FIM annuals also carry Carlisle & District League tables/results, if you're interested.

There was a fifth Cumbria Rugby League Annual, put together a few years later by a Whitehaven-based freelance (FIM - Bruce Foster, Alan Irving and Graham Mumberson - were all Cumbrian Newspapers, now CN Group, employees). Sure I have a copy somewhere in the loft. I'll see if I can locate it.

many thanks, more spaces filled on my quest to get as much of leagues history onto my records, still many to go. regarding 1983/84 cumberland div 2, on ly 9 teams shown but 18 games played by each. did the book missone out? it will be a team with 12 points to get the points to balance up. some seasone a league cup is shown, some with top 4 finals. are they one and the same as they do not both show in same seasons. great info though.

I don't know if the put the archives on line but have you tried The Whitehaven News? they used to publish results and reports every week and I'm pretty sure used to print the table regularly.

Many thanks,

fitzington is the missing team. Even though wins/loses do not balance. Not unusual though! Any more tables from other seasons welcome. Got some (mainly from you already!)

Certainly did when I was sports editor (1987-90). :-) Seems like another life now...

Frizington aren't listed in that table for that season. The FIM annuals were put together in the days of hot metal and typesetters. I imagine a few errors crept past the proofreader.

Some interesting clubs that are long gone: Blue Bell, Brigham, Broughton Moor, Haverigg Prison, Mirehouse, St Bees, Shipwrights, Twinames and Wigton plus all the Carlisle area teams. A couple of former colleagues used to play for Dalston.

I can't answer the League Cup/Top Four question. It may be, some years, there wasn't an end-of-season play-off. The Cumberland League, in particular, had so many competitions because businesses kept approaching the league, asking to sponsor a cup!

Generally in the 80's/90's for the Cumberland league there was the league, the top 4 play off, the Amateur Cup and the Cumberland Cup, I think the Amateur Cup and the Cumberland Cups were the ones that were generally sponsored. In addition there was the County cup (or Cumbria Cup) which included the Barrow teams.

The 2nd division had the league, top 4 and 2nd division cup, also known as the Dale Campbell-Savours cup, teams in the 2nd division that weren't A teams usually played in the Amateur and Cumberland Cups.

There was also a 3rd division for a few seasons, they also usually played in the Dale Campbell-Savours cup

After much searching in the sweltering loft, I've located the other Cumbria Rugby League Annual, edited and published in 1992 by Whitehaven-based freelance journalist Gordon Brown.

Stats relate to the 1990-91 season (no league tables, unfortunately).

Cumbria Cup: Hensingham beat Millom. Cumberland Cup: Kells beat Hensingham. Cumberland Amateur Cup: Glasson Rangers beat Egremont Rangers. Dale Campbell Savours Cup: Great Clifton beat Wath Brow Hornets A. John Fletcher Cup: Hensingham A beat Cockermouth. John Nicholson Cup: Lowca A beat Cockermouth A.

Hensingham reached the first round of the Challenge Cup, losing 7-24 (HT 3-12) to Dewsbury at Derwent Park, Workington (crowd 1,057).

Cumberland League

Division One: Ellenborough Rangers, champions; Hensingham, runners-up. Top four play-off: Lowca beat Kells. Division Two: Dalston, champions; Great Clifton runners-up. Top four play-off: Great Clifton beat Dalston. Division Three: Egremont Rangers A, champions; Wigton runners-up. Top four play-off: Hensingham A beat Cockermouth. Division Four: Lowca A, champions; Dearham Wanderers, runners-up. Top four play-off: Lowca A beat Broughton Red Rose A. Norweb Nines: Seaton Rangers beat Frizington.

By this time, Carlisle area teams had been absorbed by the Cumberland League. Listed clubs for 1991-92 include (all in Division Four) Horse & Farrier, Linton Holme, Penrith and St Nicholas Arms. Dalston are in Division One. Other interesting entries include Corkickle and Westfield Hotel (both Division Two), and Westfield Welfare (Division Three).

No listings for the Barrow & District League.

West Cumbria Youth League

U19

Champions: Hensingham. Top Four Cup: Hensingham 19 Egremont Rangers 14. League Cup: Hensingham 24 Egremont Rangers 12. Cumbria Cup: Hensingham 26 Egremont Rangers 12. Also comps for U17, U15, U13, U11 and U9 (if you want them). Cumbria U19 (beat Yorkshire 26-8, drew with Lancashire 14-14) won the County Youth Championship. Hensingham U19 (lost 14-16 to Saddleworth Rangers) reached the semi-finals of the BNFL National Youth Cup.

I assume the places in brackets refer to the nearest town or, if a village is out in the sticks/it's a town in its own right, Cumbria is used. If so, arguably, they should read: Brookland Rovers (Maryport), Dearham (Maryport), Distington (Cumbria), Egremont Rangers (Cumbria), Ellenborough Rangers (Maryport), Glasson Rangers (Maryport), Maryport (Cumbria), Millom (Cumbria), Wath Brow Hornets (Cleator Moor).

I have been collecting amateur RL results and tables for many years now and when I first started to collect them I used to put the nearest town or City that had a professional RL team as the location but, although my geography is excellent now, it was not so good then. I have never been to Maryport so I used to put teams north of Whitehaven down as Workington, unless they were well north like Aspatria and I would then put them down as Carlisle. I only recently started to put Cumbria as the location if they were  not in Workington, Whitehaven or Carlisle. I should have known better really because as a Salfordian it really makes my blood boil when people call me a Mancunian. I am too old now and there is far too much information for me to start adjusting it all now. In any case I have lost my enthusiasm for the game in recent months and am not doing much in the way of research. When I die somebody will probably burn it all!

As I was taking the Knockout Cup back today I took a list of winners off it for you. Unfortunately not all clubs have gone to the effort of having it engraved but this is what’s on it.

The latter years this will be ‘A’ teams that have won as first teams moved to NWC/NCL leagues

If if you are interested I will see if I can go look at the other trophies and get the info that’s on them. Unfortunately not many are in our cabinet this season.
