The Dons made it six straight wins in Betfred League One with a hard fought 23-14 victory at Whitehaven.

Richard Horne made just one change to his starting line-up, with Jordie Hedges coming in at loose forward in place of Charlie Martin.

The home side edged ahead early on, as they chose to go for goal from a penalty 30 metres out, and scrum-half Daniel Abram converted for 2-0.

It was the Dons though who got the opening try of the game after 16 minutes, as Hakim Miloudi collected the ball on his own try-line and raced the length of the field to score.

Whitehaven responded just before the half-hour mark, as Jordan Burns found Scott McAvoy close to the line and he had the room to dive over. Abram extended the lead to 8-4.

The Dons went back in front with five minutes of the first-half remaining, as Miloudi found centre Connor Bower down the right who finished superbly. Matty Beharrell added the two with the successful conversion.

The Cumbrian side levelled the scores when Abram kicked another penalty goal after the Dons were penalised in the centre of their own half.

There was still time for the Dons to score their third try of a thrilling first-half, as Jack Logan got on the end of Jason Tali’s kick through to touch down on the hooter. Beharrell was again on the money with the boot.

HALF-TIME | Whitehaven 10–16 Doncaster RLFC

Both sides came forward with the ball in the opening exchanges of the second-half, with Brad England having a try ruled out for offside as he looked to extend the Dons’ lead.

Whitehaven then looked to move the ball quickly on the last tackle with the Dons defence spread, but Jesse-Joe Parker couldn’t keep hold down the right flank.

With tries proving hard to come by for both sides, the Dons extended their lead when Miloudi collected the ball 10 metres out and kicked a drop-goal for 17-10.

Whitehaven got themselves back into the game with eight minutes remaining, as centre Jason Mossop carved through the Dons defence to go over.

The Dons secured the win with just four minutes left on the clock, as Brad England latched onto a nice pass from Howden to race over. Beharrell converted for 23-14.
