REACTION | Horne pleased with win

Richard Horne felt the Dons handled the game well after beating Newcastle Thunder in Betfred League One.

Horne’s side won 38-21 at the Keepmoat Stadium, in the third meeting between the two sides in 2018.

He said: “Newcastle had an aggressive line speed and we managed to cope with that during spells throughout the game and get some points on the board.

“We scraped a win the last time we played them and they will have taken confidence from that, our start was important.

“When they generate ruck tempo they’re a tough team to deal with, on the the back of that they have Lewis Young causing problems.”

The victory moved the Dons into third in the table, with three games of the regular season remaining.

He added: “We always have belief, we prepare and train hard so the boys know what they have to do. They’ve been really good in taking on board what I want them to do.

“We’ve got a lot of competition for places, we haven’t got the biggest squad but everyone is fit and Kieran Cross is coming close to a return.

“We’ve spoken about how important this period is, all we can do is keep winning our games and the league table will take care of itself.”
