Is this interview actually anything to do with RL or is it a promotional piece which has been ghost written by the Toronto Tourist Board, who is it actually aimed at, there are big bold headlines then if goes on to say............ er, well nothing else.

Ahhemm...we've won league leaders two years running in two separate leagues and won promotion once and are at the doorsteps of doing it again. We have two very shinny serving trays and a mini trophy so far.

I’m obviously not having a dig, but I mean the big trophies!

The Courtney Goodwill Trophy? That’s literally the biggest trophy in rugby league.

It's strange but the article has been modified and important information removed (Who is argyle? Who are the people around him?). Decided for once that there was some information on this "project". Finally it's still confusing and things seem hidden ..

Rugby league the easiest game in the world to play apparently you start up in a country with a limited Rugby league history and bam 18 months later your producing athletes from that country that have the skills to compete at a championship/super league level WOW it will take 5 years at least for that to happen have some patience lads

What would your definition of "Heartlands" be?

What we are currently building in Toronto of course.  Didn't you read the article?

I did not see anything that related to Toronto becoming the "Heartlands"of the game.

Its a team of mainly imported cast offs from other Leagues without any solid foundations or structure to support the team.

What do you think you have to claim to be the future Heartlands of the game?

The over hyping of "The Wolf Pack" will be their downfall, that stuff does not always work or sell well outside of North America.

Argyle says he wants to stay at Lamport.

Argyle says he wants to bring more tourists to Toronto.

Argyle says he wants to bring a test match to Toronto.

To be honest, it reads like his whole reason for establishing the Wolfpack is to increase Toronto tourism, not to spread rugby league.

I thought it had changed too..

I have found an original version at this site: https://www.vancourier.com/wolfpack-owner-happy-to-stay-out-of-limelight-as-team-rises-up-rugby-league-ranks-1.23444209

Based on the rubbery numbers quoted it is not going to work.

Argyle says the Wolfpack attracted a little more than 1,000 British visitors to Toronto last season and an estimated 3,000 this year. Next year, if in Super League, they hope to attract 15,000 tourists to their home games.

The franchise is also bidding to host a Tier 1 international match here—possibly at BMO Field—which could bring another 10,000 visiting fans.

Thats our market though!...that is where the new heartland is being constructed!  You've got to make that leap in thought.

The full game in the UK is on a knife edge from numbers watching / playing / helping .

Apart from the very top teams in super league the game lives hand to mouth .

The games foundations are getting weaker and weaker in the UK .

Lots of UK pro teams are made up of imported cast offs .

UK doesnt have any hype , none .

If something cannot be done to steady the game from the bottom up , then drive it forward it will slowly die .

If the Wolfpack can add something to the game alongside the French maybe that will be a starting point for the game to start growing again .

Allora the UK game needs something , anything to give it a helping hand .

Im someone who has been involved with the game from been 9 - 10 years old playing until early 30s volunteering at amateur level both youth and open age . thanks

Yes I do.

But without any foundations or structure or from an outsiders viewpoint long term plans.

Craft Beer Tents  will only get you so far, in some Countries not that far at all for very long.

Good post.

Mate, if it is that bad, you will need  more than Toronto or a couple of French teams to turn it around.

The game needs to be sorted from the top down with decent management.

It appears from a distance to be run by an old mates club with their snouts in the trough.

How many Schools in Toronto have Rugby League on their schedule.

What sort of junior Club numbers are there.

What amateur club competitions are there to develop and bring on new players?

Not being a smart axrse just genuinely like to know the long term plans of The Wolf Pack

24 months ago, they had never heard of RL in Toronto. If teams like Wigan and St Helens have to augment their squads with imports to compete in SL then Toronto won't be using any home-grown players for a decade or likely more.

And who will Toronto play if English heartland clubs start to fail?

Cart before horse springs to mind.

no worries i wasn't thinking you were, it's just we're so pumped about our serving trays!!! they really really need to design some trophies.

CC is a beauty...the rest are all very ugly ducklings...maybe we should just focus on winning CC before SL based on that. although ha anyone else noticed that when Catalans were doing the Camp Nou walk the lady on top of the CC trophy was very wobbly? is the CC a Cheapo Felipo trophy as well?

You are being very difficult, you know that it is a work in progress, no one has ever pretended any different.  More fair to ask your questions in a few years...and you know it.

The long term plans have been made quite clear...and you also know that.

Or or..now hang on tight because i know that might be a hard concept...this will help attract more big sponsorship?! Not your local Nigel's corner pub kinda stuff but actual major corporations...you know the kind relevant sports get?  Also in a country where RL wasn't on the radar for the vast majority of the population how is bringing  a proper test match not seen as a significant step towards growing rugby league? The English fans moan all the freaking time about not having enough test matches in the UK and were already planning on having some here.

Step aside moaners and groaners...step aside

it seems that Elstoe is our obi wan kanobie and Argyle and TWP are Skywalker and the rebel alliance. SL needs to be more professional and there is a renewed hope that this is about to start happening.
