Oxford
On Love RL "Bring back the Exiles – how they could look in 2019" Now the team selection looks great for this 1. Lachlan Coote (St Helens) 2. Akuila Uate (Huddersfield) 3. Bill Tupou (Wakefield) 4. Konrad Hurrell (Leeds) 5. Ken Sio (Salford) 6. Blake Austin (Warrington) 7. Jackson Hastings (Salford) 8. Junior Moors (Castleford) 9. Thomas Leuluai (Wigan) 10. David Fifita (Wakefield) 11. Kenny Edwards (Catalans) 12. Joseph Paulo (St Helens) 13. Trent Merrin (Leeds) 14. Sam Moa (Catalans) 15. Jese Sene-Lefao (Castleford) 16. Ben Murdoch-Masila (Warrington) 17. Kane Linnett (Hull KR) But the Exiles are about as marketable as a Brexit agreement with the EU. I did think Hemisphere Origin but I'm not sure that's any better but what a high level match it might produce as preparation. Hastings v Gale never mind the other mouth watering match-ups! 2 warning points Non-Political
JM2010
We all have a moan about England not playing enough games, especially at home, and this would be of a really high standard. It might be a made up team but could be marketed into an event
Man of Kent
Clearly stronger competition than anything else available in the northern hemisphere for a midseason game. I would buy a ticket anyway (as long as it’s not midweek in Leigh)... Oxford’s selection omits Bryson Goodwin, Matt Parcell, Jake Mamo, Albert Kelly, Pauli Pauli, Sika Manu and Sebastine Ikahihifo etc etc. There’s depth in every position. ELBOWSEYE
Trouble with this is the quality of the exiles side will vary year to year. There looks more quality player's this year but over the previous seasons the quality wasnt there. So it is not something you can constantly use . Allora
How good does it look when a knocked up team of castoffs with nothing to play for wins half of the games against the England team. The crowds were 14k, 11k then around 8k and 8k hardly building a foundation on a successful concept. Even the name "Exiles" did not make any sense. Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Oliver Clothesoff
Like all things in UK Rugby League, it was given about three years to work before it was consigned in the history books with licensing, Celtic Crusaders and PSG. That’s not nearly enough time for an event to become a meaningful game. Would I bring back something else from the dead for 2019 and beyond? No, we’ve already got a few things in there that are being brought back and I’d rather we played proper nations in an International game.
ghost crayfish
Exiles was a stupid name. Not relatable to anyone, and has negative connotations (foreign super league players are there because they're exiled from the NRL?) Call them Rest of the World, fill it with test players (including PNG, France etc players ahead of Aussies), talk up that side of things - the different cultures on show - and give people a reason to take an interest. The concept can work. It doesn't have to happen instead of anything else, just another fixture for the calendar.

It includes Australians so it does make sense I doubt the game would drag the NRL contingent across but would certainly be another opportunity to get the England team on the pitch. dealwithit
Union has the Barbarians. Why not just pick a name and go for it? If it’s a close game with world class players, the home fans will turn up.

Sir Kevin Sinfield
England need to go downunder mid season to play at least one preferably two games against the likes of New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji or PNG. They are all much stronger than France at the moment. Most the England team play in the NRL anyway. I don’t think we should go back down the exiles route Sadly I don’t believe Super League have left a blank weekend, as the NRL have done, for a round of International games. I also never really felt like either the England team or the Exile team gave it 100% either, a bit like the old Lancashire v Yorkshire games. Its just a flawed concept that should not be revived. Quinskolar
As it stands London have no overseas players with the exception of Pellisier. A real testament to local development.
Damien
I think a Celtic Nations team, along the lines of the British Lions, provide the most credible sort of made up team to play England and other tier 1 nations and would also be an incentive for players to stay with Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Essentially have a GB minus England to tour and host the bigger nations when they are here playing England.

Oliver Clothesoff
Super League teams play thirty plus games a year, it’s little wonder that we can’t manage to shoehorn in an International week too. We’ll never get a decent balance between domestic and International Rugby League when the game is led by the club’s owners and it’s so club centric. We need a max 27 rounds before play offs. Less would be better however 27 is bearable. A question is has their ever been a time where internationals were not a afterthought for RL? And how does the game sell internationals better?
Odsal Outlaw
Didn’t the NRL refuse to release England players last time as it wasn’t an ‘official test’? Yeah I think it was just SL based England players V Exiles. But if we have an international break the same time as the NRL why wouldn’t they release players? ghost crayfish
The NRL tried desperately hard to block players from going to Denver this year, so unfortunately it's hard to see them being fine with players making a longer journey, for an unofficial test. That doesn't mean it shouldn't happen though - again, other sports do it all the time. As a game, we need to stop finding reasons not to have internationals. Who cares if players are missing, or they're thrashings, or whatever. It's all content. Whatever the situation, there's a story to tell - blooding new talent, farewelling veterans, a rare chance to see stars who've gone to the NRL, a rare chance to see the best of super league playing together, building up to the ashes/the world cup/whatever. Just put games on, and tell whatever the story is that makes it worthwhile. If you can't think of one, quit your job in Marketing and PR immediately.
