Yes, makes sense and although it upsets traditionalists like me, I can understand the potential for attracting new fans.

I suppose. You’d have thought Yorkshire v Lancashire would be a big enough ‘brand’ though

North West would include Cumbria too, yeah? Need all the help they can over there I guess.

Yeah, I know where you’re coming from - guess we’ll have to see how people react.

What marketing genius drops the Lancashire name from the war of the roses?

Idiots!

I like the idea of an origin game, but I agree with your assessment.

Either do Yorkshire v Lancashire, or do East v West (or North East vs North West).

I really don't think it is the return of the war of the roses. Not at top level anyway. There is really no time for it, the fans don't really want it, its pretty inward looking and they would clearly have other ideas before it.

I hope not anyway.

Perhaps the Yorkshire v Lancashire concept didn't go down too well. So the genius behind hit adopted Plan B 😕

I think a War of the roses match would be great. As a neutral, I'd be more interested in it than I am in club RL.

I also think the potential for making a spectacle of it and attracting a wider audience, is much greater than for something like the Challenge Cup final, which realistically will only ever have limited appeal outside of regular RL fans.

I'd make sure that it was on the BBC and try and get the whole country involved in the occasion.

Things like this are also a bit of fun, to help people choose which side they're on:

Isn't the North West an official region of England as well as Yorkshire and the Humber?

Perhaps they anticipated the comments from this forum?

'Salford is not in Lancashire, its in Greater Manchester'

'St Helens is not in Lancashire its in Merseyside'

'Warrington is not in Lancashire, its in Cheshire'

... and so on..

Well whatever secret obtuse plan someone is trying to sneak out, it's not got any space in the 2019 fixture list, has it?

This is all somewhat absurd, but unless it's a spoof then it's a plan from Rimmer.

War of the roses?

Will they have Edward IV playing scrum-half and Richard III at stand-off for the Yorkists, with Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick as their battering ram front-rower? For the Lancastrians how will Henry VI perform at fullback when he is completely senile? All the while Lancasters coach Margaret Beaufort is off-side with her own fans for selecting her little boy Henry Tudor to be captain and star scrum half.
