Barla cup

3 of the 8 ties were 18-0 walkovers

do teams enter on the 50/50 basis that they’ll get a home draw and if not they think sod it we aren’t going there!

its hard to see a future for the amateur game with the current way it is going

i firmly believe the amateur game needs to be under one banner but neither the RFL or Barla are capable organisations at the moment

If teams do not travel that is down to them and not BARLA though a 2 year ban from entering may deter that.

BTW what has happened to jason woodam running the barla twitter account, all has gone quiet, has he fallen out with them?

The guy who runs all our media is working away in Holland and trying to get passwords  so someone else can keep everything up to date is proving to be hard work.

if clubs wanted to play 2nd teams then they would enter 2nd teams.

most 2nd teams are miles off the 1st team standard so it would be like sending lambs to slaughter in most cases not all.

You'd be surprised by the standard of some of these so called second teams, in fact the NCL clubs don't call them second teams during the winter, they are their winter teams which are made up of 1st, 2nd and U18's players and if you look at the league tables they all seem to be doing OK for themselves, I'm sure Drighlington, East Leeds & Eastmoor winter teams would hold their own in  the Pennine or YML premier divisions.

It’s not a competition for all of the amateur game now, sadly different factions won’t budge on dates etc

Sadly the NCL decided to put pressure on their clubs by giving league fixtures on BARLA cup dates.

I'm not a big BARLA fan and my club are in the NCL but Marauder is right in this instance though Davo. BARLA play the National cup rounds to coincide with the winter leagues as they have always done. They have not done anything to exclude any clubs.

So then why are the teams who are in the pennine league not entering? the last 4 winners are NCL teams. Looking at the 1st round draw there are not many from pennine.

The ncl cup was ditched as so few clubs wanted to enter it, there are too many games in the season and players want some weekends off and not playing every week

Waterhead v Orrell St James

Upton v Cockermouth Titans

Kells `A` v Bentley

Skirlaugh v Haydock

Myton Warriors v Moldgreen

Queensbury v Seacroft Sharks

Wigan St Cuthbert’s v Thatto Heath

Aspartia Hornets v West Hull

Lambworth Lions v Hunslet Club Parkside

Glasson Rangers v Drighlington

Siddal v Sharlston Rovers

Oldham St Anne’s v Ovenden

Kinsley Rangers v Walney Central

Eastern Rhino’s v Cutsyke

Blackbrook v Ellenborough

West Bank v Doncaster Toll Bar

It still as a draw with clubs associated with BARLA and this year it attracted more none Pennine clubs than the year before, hopefully this trend will continue but if it does I dare say some type of competition will be put in place.

Looking at the barla website the next round is being played on 9th March when is challenge cup round 3 is being played. Not sure when the semis and final are, I couldnt find them on the website

Just go back and check, not many lower divisional sides entered after the mid 80's because many obviously thought it was a lost cause because they had no chance of winning it and the NCL clubs must think it's still worth winning,.

As for the BARLA & Challenge cup being on the same day, it's has to be a mix up somewhere near the top because aren't all the dates for the such sorted out before the season starts between the community board and RFL.

Can only think of Egremont who took it seriously  recently and that was probably just because it was an easy way of drawing level with Wath Brow on the number of wins, but it nearly cost them their premier league place and they soon stopped entering it.

I wonder why then any community team enter the challenge cup as they have no chance of winning it.
