We have a very good squad of players thst can compete against the best in this league I have no doubt about that, we just need to cut out the mistakes and penalty's, bring on sunday, come on thunder!!!

Newcastle Thunder have announced their 19 man squad for Sunday’s visit of Doncaster RLFC, as Mick Mantelli’s side look to record a first home win of the season.

Following a dogged victory over the University of Gloucestershire All Golds in their last league match, Thunder are anticipating a tough encounter, against a side that currently sit second in Kingstone Press League 1.

The match day squad shows two changes to that line up, with Cook Island international Aaron Teroi and dual registered player Kieran Moran replacing Gioele Celerino and Tom Reudiger.

After suffering last gasp defeats in their two home games to date, Thunder head coach Mick Mantelli is calling on his side to take that next step and close out a win this weekend.

Mantelli said: “This is a very important game for us, we haven’t won at home yet and Doncaster are a pretty good team. They’ve been playing pretty well and have wins on the board, but we’re at home and we need to start making this a fortress for us.

Revealing what he expects Doncaster to offer this weekend, the head coach added, “They’re a big team who like to play through the middle, so it’s going to be a massive challenge for us but it’s one that the boys are looking forward to.

“We need to control the middle, and try and make some inroads with some of the fleet footedness we have in our squad.”

Great result today. At Gloucester and against Doncaster the team have managed the game well and nicked field goals and taken penalty kicks to ensure that they win the game. In days gone past that would have been a loss. Saying that the defence was still sloppy at times but in the heat I'll let them off! We will face sterner tests than Doncaster but its good progress
