Swesaint
I haven't heard much news yet, but the Swedish season will start with the now traditional 9's tournament. The league will consist of three teams (Stockholm, Kungsbacka and Skåne) and there is also a new North v South two match series. I guess that the Nordic Cup will be played again. Does anyone have any news regarding Denmark and Norway?
Fabou
I thought they had a 4 teams league + 1 that they were trying to build in Uddevala... Norway has a bigger league from what i remember, they are pretty active on the social media.

kimmi
The official RLN season starts 23rd of April with the Oslo Open 9s! Oslo Rugbyklubb (union) Blindern (union) Oslo Capitals Lillestrøm Lions ( previously Flisbyen Broncos) Farsund Bobcats ( with players from Flekkefjord Tigers and Sandnes Raiders too) Tønsberg Rugbyklubb Porsgrunn Pirates Are the teams playing in the Oslo Open cup. Though the first event of the year was an indoor 7s RL tournament played on smaller pitches. This was the Lister League tournament. Stavanger Rugbyklubb won against Kristiansand Krusaders in the cup final. Farsund Bobcats came 3rd, Sandnes Raiders 4th and Tønsberg 5th. The RLN 13s will be played in 2 conferences South ** Flekkefjord Tigers Sandnes Raiders Porsgrunn Pirates North ** Bodø Barbarians Trondheim/Lillestrøm Oslo Capitals Home and away against each team in the conference. Then a top 4 from an overall table will decide who gets in the semi finals on the 22nd of October. Norway v Denmark on the 4th of June Sweden v Norway on the 14th of July I think. Bob8
There is a rugby league open day on the 30th April in Roskilde. That is the same Roskilde that hosts Europe's buggest music festival and is the former capital of Denmark. Bob8
Some rather shocking news. Denmark have had to pull out of the fixture against Norway in the Nordic Cup. This means they are forfeiting the tournament. I have not been in Denmark for a year and a half, so cannot provide full details behind this. Copenhagen was the main driving force with the likes of Nigel, Eugene, Rich etc Jylland was always hit and miss. I know they had problems in Denmark but did not realise it was so bad! Copenhagen should have been playing in the Swedish League for me as least regular games etc.

However, the people driving it now were the same ones involved in the good times. Developing nations will hit hard times and it is bouncing back that is important. They are hard working and have the best interests of the game at heart. It is not like many scenarios we have seen in various new rugby league nations where the administration are the problem. Nigel, Eugene and Rich are still very active after all. I am very confident that they will bounce back next year and hopefully I will be involved in that myself if there is a role for me. Seems to be a recurring theme in new sport start-ups as far as I can see. My korfball club, and a couple that have started since have all followed the same pattern - a really busy and enthusiastic start, a bit of success, but then after a couple of years the initial momentum runs out, a few people drift away, maybe naturally, maybe through internal personality clashes, and things get much more difficult. The key seems to be working really hard to get through this patch, and with a bit of luck thrown in the organisation will be that much stronger and ready for more growth. I think you have summed it up very well. Indeed, there was rapid growth in 2013 and maintaining it is a challenge. There will always be challenges, Danish Rugby Union is very poorly run and sees rugby league introducing a rugby ball to kids that have never seen one as the main threat to its existence. Furthermore, finding rugby players who are good administrators is never straight forward (the RFL and RFU struggle). The neighbouring nations have been very supportive, so I imagine they will help Danish rugby league get back on its feet in no time. It is being run by good people and will survive. Swesaint
At short notice following Denmark's withdrawal a Norway XIII v Sweden XIII game was arranged with Norway winning 30-22. There has been one game in the league so far, Stockholm 54, Kungsbacka 18. Skåne v Stockholm was postponed as both sides had trouble getting enough players. Swesaint
Result from the weekend; Kungsbacka 52, Stockholm 30. The local paper wrote a short article about the match and included a clip with some match action. http://norrahalland.se/kungsbackas-nya-tranare-visade-vagen According to the federation home page Skåne has pulled out of 13-a-side competitions due to low player numbers, but are still active. Bob8
So after disbanding the successful Sweden-Denmark league, Sweden are down to 2 teams and Denmark have 0. Radical ideas are often dropped once they seem to work. There were also incentives for Sweden to develop their own purely national league. A poignant day to discuss this perhaps!!
