Keighley Cougars can this evening announce that Aaron Ollett and Hamish Barnes have departed the club to join the Dewsbury Rams.

Utility forward Ollett joined the club ahead of the 2016 season from Super League outfit Hull Kingston Rovers along with teammate Sonny Esslemont as Paul March’s marquee signings for the season.

Ollett featured in every game bar two and finished the season with 5 tries in his 25 appearances for the club, including appearing from the interchanges bench in May’s iPro Sport Cup Final victory over the York City Knights in Blackpool.

Jamaican international centre Barnes originally joined the clubs reserves side from the Boothtown Terriers ahead of the 2015 season and despite only featuring once under Dean Muir, impressed Paul March enough to earn a place in the first team.

‘Beamish’ made his first team debut in an away victory against the Hemel Stags, a game in which he scored a brace of tries in a Man of the Match performance, before going from strength to strength to form a young and energetic partnership with Andy Gabriel down the right hand side of attack.

2016 saw Hamish start the season as a house on fire, scoring 14 tries in 11 appearances prior to injury his shoulder in May’s victory over Hemel and missing the next two months of the season.

Despite this Barnes attracted interest from the Bradford Bulls and Toronto Wolfpack prior to signing for the Rams for 2017.

The club would like to thank the pair for their services and wish them the best in their new adventure at the Tetley’s Stadium.
