Are any programmes now possible to sell

Recommended Posts

I was looking on ebay auction and there are just under 1000 items in auction

Of these apart from 3 possible complete seasons of Blackpool programmes, only onecurrent season issue plus a book on the history of Batley has an offer

There is a good range of options, one from Belle Vue, a collection of 900 and

also 1940's internationals and a 1950's world cup one. Some are only ten pence

and there is a reasonable choice of cup finals

All that is missing is buyers

Is the market now totally dead

The figure of just under a 1000 is the programmes section only There are almost ten times as many items in buy it now but obviously the turnover on these is hard to assess. Most of the programmes that would be expected to have multiple

interest would be on the auction section

I was just surprised that there seems to be no market now unless prewar or

possibly current season

I think the vast majority of 60s 70s 80s 90s are ten-a-penny with odd exception. Twas ever thus. Current season should always have a market as fans who are not away travellers look to fill gaps.

Unfortunately for the hobby in general, the next generation is not coming through to the point where there are just no kids whasoever interested. With no newbies, nobody is building up a collection of easy-to-get items. It's the same 40+ group chasing the same hard to get/pre 60s stuff.

The other unfortunate/logical conclusion is that the hobby dies out within a generation or two.

Totally agree Mark LP. I used to produce a collectors catalogue back in the 1990s (Northern Programmes RL) and it was an exclusive market even then. Possibly no more than 150 collectors, some more enthusiastic than others. I became so worried about the lack of new collectors coming through that I sold my entire stock for a song. Some high profile clubs seemed to have no dedicated collectors whatsoever. Nowadays the serious collectors are mostly over 45s who like me have been at it for 25 years or more. But if anyone out there has any old Swinton please let me know - only 32 homes and 27 aways needed since 1945.
