LEULUAI SIGNS ON AGAIN WITH RHINOS

Recommended Posts

Leeds Rhinos have been handed a major boost ahead of this Saturday's massive Tetley's Challenge Cup clash at Huddersfield Giants with the news that prop Kylie Leuluai has agreed a new contract with the club.

The former Samoa captain joined the Rhinos in 2007 but had planned to retire at the end of this season however he has had a change of heart now and signed a new rolling contract with the Champions.

The 35-year-old has twice now put off retirement plans and has agreed with the club to sign a rolling contract rather than put another deadline on his career. Leuluai has been given a further boost with news that he and his wife no longer require visas to live and work in the UK having satisfied the necessary criteria since moving to the country six years ago.

Commenting on the news Leuluai said, "I am really pleased to have got the deal sorted and can now look forward to the future starting with a big game against Huddersfield on Saturday. You are a long time retired and it was a big decision for me. I have to thank my wife and family for their support to stay here in Leeds and carry on playing. I am feeling good and want to continue as long as I can and I am very grateful to the club for allowing me to do that."

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott added, "Kylie has been in great form for us this season so it was a pretty easy decision to offer him a new deal once he decided he wanted to postpone his retirement. He is a leader within our team and works hard with our medical and conditioning staff to make sure he is in the best possible shape on gameday. It is a big boost for the team to have Kylie back on board for next season and beyond."

Fellow Rhinos prop Jamie Peacock added, "I think Kylie has been a great overseas signing not just for Leeds but for the Super League competition. He is not one of the star names like people like Lesley Vainikolo, Henry Paul or Danny Buderus but he has brought something special to the Leeds team. It is great that he is going around again and it is a big boost to us at the Rhinos. He would certainly be up there with the best imports I have ever played alongside and I am sure he will continue to produce his very best for Leeds."
