  1. There's been loads of local engagement in Maryport over their regeneration schemes, there's something on facebook every week, but I've never heard of anything similar happening in Workington or Cleator Moor who both got lots more money that Maryport did from the levelling up funds. I'm sure our BOD have a clear idea of what they need from the stadium as its mostly influenced by the IMG report, so all written down in black and white and they will have a clear idea of what needs spent where in order to get more stadium points.
  2. I would expect Town's success in reinventing the club on and off the field would give them more influence over decisions in the coming months as they now have a better idea of what is required commercially to make the stadium viable. My bigger concern is there won't be the money to make this a reality as one main grandstand to house hospitality, changing rooms etc will cost more than the entire budget for the stadium if done correctly! I suppose we will have to wait and see what can be built with what is a very very tight budget
  3. I see Reds are looking to start up a new Ladies team now. What a farce, if they had looked after the current team they wouldn't find themselves in this position - talk about an 'own goal' From what I've heard, the Reds in the Community and Ladies teams are all ran as individual clubs playing under the banner of Workington AFC. I was told that every age group has it's own little committee who are responsible for raising their own sponsorship money to buy tracksuit tops etc for their own age group. Now I must stress this is what I was told by a parent and I have no idea of knowing if this is correct or not, but it seems to fit the narrative in the Red's ladies statement about finances. It seems an odd way to do things as at amateur RL there's generally a youth committee that looks after all ages with joint fundraising efforts to make their clubs as inclusive as possible!
  4. I find the lack of transparency frustrating, Dave Bowden appears to be the lead on the project but somethings held this scheme up for 4 years and the lack of progress is there for everyone to see. Nobody wants a 'lastminute.com' stadium, but it looks as of that's what we will get as the money has to be spent by 2025, which doesn't leave long for planning, consultation, test drilling and finally the build. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Town pull out of the ground share, they could in theory and always look to move in with the Reds at a later date should the next phases ever get built. Its a poor show and the powers that be need to take some responsibility, as does the new Stadium Board who should be banging on doors to get this scheme moving. If not, get someone else in with some major construction knowledge who can move this forward
  5. BARLA !!! - the ###### All Rugby League Association - are they even relevant these days? Should have been wound up years ago with the money returned the the relative leagues to use for their own development programme
  6. So genuine question, has there ever been a financial / participation report released by the RFL to show how much income has been generated by the RFL pay to play membership scheme and what benefits (other than the ability to play matches) have been filtered back into the community game, as I seem to recall the scheme was forced through on the back of multiple benefits for community clubs. It would be interesting to see the participation numbers through all age groups to see what state the community game is in, and would be even better if it could be reported by region so we can see how different areas are doing. There should an annual report published each year purely for the community game with all this information included along with a breakdown of every league showing the number of broken fixtures etc. Each individual league would have this information so it shouldn't take too much effort to convert this into a report
  7. or be really ambitious and play them all at Leigh !
  8. I I wouldn't doubt it for one second, especially with it being on an old ash tip, plus the added complication of the sewer pipe running under the car park and very close to the grandstand
  9. I wasn't aware the money had to spent on specific projects - really Dave Bowden needs to come out and update fans of both clubs as everyone is getting frustrated with the process now
  10. Ahhm, makes sense now. Must have been your Wukinton a accent I was struggling with .....and I agree with you, it probably would make sense at this stage to do what you've said above as I'm sure the Reds could build a nice grandstand with bars and changing facilities for £3 million as they will also get FA money, but not sure how far £3 million would go on DP. Out of interest how far do you think £3 million would go and what areas of the ground would you develop as unlike the Reds Town can't access any other money UNLESS they agree a long term lease with Red's ladies in which case they could also access grants to go towards ladies only changing facilities etc. In regards to improvements, I suppose it would depend on what state the steel is on the grandstand, but in theory it could get a new roof and extend the bar and hospitality onto part of the enclosure and I would like to see terracing closer to the pitch behind the dead ball line, but I don't think £3 million would cover a fraction of the costs involved. But anyway, it makes no difference as the money has to be spent on the projects as listed further up this thread
  11. how can they split the cash when they are about to start the projects - plus the council can't just split the cash even if they wanted to as the money is for Maryport and how its spent is overseen by government, Workington also got money from a different government pot of cash
  12. nope - its along the promenade next to the new cafe and toilet block
  13. only a proportion of it, the rest has been reallocated to other schemes - promenade cafe, skateboard, bike track, new play area with splash park and a harbourside park with dedicated events area and a new soft play area in the Wave centre
  14. how can you split it when its been spent on other projects? and I don't think government grants work that way, the money has to be spent in whatever town was successful wtih the bid
