BBC Radio 4 Today: Challenge Cup piece

Recommended Posts

I heard it too.

Plus points: It existed, and the tone was sincere. It was in-depth, and it played to the magic of the cup narrative.

Negative points: Referred to as the quarter-final stage, and they Shaun Edwards on to talk about it. Nothing wrong with that per se - although a current RL person would make more sense - but he did sound like he was reading the list of names off a sheet and didn't bring much colour to his intervention because he didn't name any players or coaches. I don't think they refrrenced the BBC TV games, which seems odd.

Still, that sounds too negative. It was a good effort and I was pleasantly surprised to hear it.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

It was an odd piece in a way, with what sounded like the junior office journo getting lumped with the sport slot she cared nothing about. But it existed, which is great.

Karthi Gnanasegaram does a great job. Nice that they highlighted sundays Saints Hull game with mention of the legendary Steve Prescott

I've not really noticed her before, although I'm not usually awake enough at that point to pay much attention.

I heard it too, but waited 'til someone on here started a thread, just in case I was dreaming. A very welcome surprise, especially for the Today programme.

And also send a little feedback in the direction of Radio 4 in general or Today in particular - an ounce of praise is more effective than a pound of opprobrium. Being the BBC, they get enough of the latter* from the rabid right and the loony left already.
