You are doing Wath a disservice.

There's only been one murder these last couple of years... nowts been burned down since Christmas and most of the local hookers have almost completed their gcse now....

No petrol, riot police, burning tyres,Hope its sorted before the footy starts.

So, there's no petrol and the riot police are burning tyres to keep warm?

Or have I misconstrued it? (wink smiley!)

And Wath isn't actually a bad place. I worked there. Went to school there. Played rugby there. Met the memsahib there. Go to the festival there. Goodish restos there.

A cracking new micro pub there. Decent housing there.

Still... it'll be nice to go to France... lord knows for how long

Fuel now readily available.

Though I had some mild anxieties about getting stranded in france, I do support the stance being made against the labour laws given the limited info I've heard/read on the topic

You support an unemployment rate stubbornly over 10.5 %? How quaintly socialist!

One reason that fuel might be easier to get than you thought is that the police have finally cleared some of the fuel depot blockades and the govt has released the countries strategic fuel reserves.

The irony is that it's the socialist government of Hollande and Valls who are pushing through these much needed reforms against opposition from the communist CGT union. Only 8% of French workers are unionised but the CGT has a stranglehold on key industries, mainly in the public sector.

It's the Presidential Elections next year and socialist Hollande, whose approval rating is the lowest of any president on record, is struggling to improve the countries woeful economic record. Under Hollande, who is considerably to the left of Corbyn, 600,000 more people have joined the ranks of the unemployed, and there has been no economic growth in years.

This is make or break for Hollande, who has pledged not to surrender, though following the example of many previous presidents, he'll likely give in.

French politics not your strong suite, then.

Strong suite (sic!), French politics? I have a steel reinforced Chaise Longue.

If you think Hollande, aligned strongly with Delanoë, is on the left of the PS then you demonstrate a complete misunderstanding of the PS. The PS has never had as wide a spectrum as the Labour Party in the UK as the parties to the left of the PS have always been much stronger than those to the left of the LP. Historically, if you are leftwing in France you joined the Communist Party now there's the Parti de Gauche too. As a consequence, the PS does not have a left wing in any way comparable to the left of the LP. What left it does have tend to be corralled around concepts of Christian Socialism. The PS is centre-left and Hollande is in the centre of the PS.
