  1. I now do almost all of my reading through audiobooks and occasionally find new (to me) authors by watching the credits of films I've enjoyed, to see if it was ‘Based on the book by’ whoever. I’ll then find out if there are any more books from that author and try them. In this way I’ve found David Baldacci, Jeffery Deaver and others. I recently watched the film ‘The Foreigner’, liked it and saw it was based on ‘The Chinaman’ by Stephen Leather. I got a couple of his other books and now can’t get enough! What a great writer IMHO. Strangely though, I’d seen his name both online and in my library, and for some unfathomable, preconceived reason, I’d decided that I wouldn’t like his books! I do admit though, with a lot of things, I’m firmly in the camp of ‘Haven’t tried it – Don’t like it’, although I am trying to broaden my outlook.
  2. I really like 'Sound of Silence' by Simon & Garfunkel, but my brother told me about a cover of it, made by the heavy rock group 'Disturbed'. For some reason there's a 10 second delay in the intro but I think that it's certainly worth listening to.
  3. I'm the same. My only concern is that the doctor only gave me enough tablets to last a week!!
  4. One of my favourite car stickers is, "So many cats, so few recipes"!
  5. I enjoy thrillers. If I watch a good film (usually on TV), I try to find out if it was based on a book, and if so, who wrote it. Using this method I 'discovered' David Baldacci (Absolute Power) and Jeffrey Deaver (the Bone Collector). I've gone on to get all of their books, which are brilliant.
  6. I'm into audiobooks. I started freshwater angling a few years ago after a 50 year layoff and I find them great. I finished "The Panther" by Nelson DeMille a while ago and really enjoyed it. It's the 6th book in his 'John Corey' series and it's a great thriller with some cracking one-liners.
  7. I quite like (Spanish) brandy but can't take to whisky! A friend has become a recent convert (and bore) of single malts and keeps trying to convert me. I do try it now and again to see if my palate has changed, but I usually look like I'm in the finals of the Grassmere Gurning Competition when I taste it! It all tastes 'peaty' to me. That is, as if it has been taken from an Irish bog - and by bog, I don't mean a swamp!!
  8. I only drink G&T to ward off malaria. It seems to have worked so far.
  9. I emailed my whisky-loving mate the list from CKN's post about the Britannia pub in London, and now he wants to go there!
  10. The Joan Baez cover of Dylan's "Forever Young" is the one for me. I first heard it on the TV show, "The Wonder Years" and was blown away. I used it as a backing to a photo slide-show of a birthday, and almost everyone who sees it asks who's singing.
