WIDNES ST MARIES LOOKING FOR NEW COACH

Widnes St Maries are in the hunt for a new head coach for their successful open age first team in 2015. The Maries open age are in a strong position thanks to the hard work put in by the departing head coach Neil Mellor.

Widnes St Maries compete in the NWML Premier Division and have enjoyed success in the last two seasons. There has only been four league defeats in the two seasons which has seen the Maries win the league leaders shield in 2013, but lose in both the 2013 and 2014 NWML Premier Divison Grand final. Success on the field has being important and has come in the last few years, the Maries are the current holders of the Annual Widnes Cup an impressive run that has seen the Maries retain the cup five years running.

Based at the Parklands Sports and Social Club in Widnes, the Maries play all their home games and train from here. Games are played on a Saturday afternoon and training sessions would be held on a Tuesday and Thursday. The Parklands is also home of the other Maries side the open age second team, Under 13's and Under 8's with plans for other age groups to join in 2015.

The Maries Open Age squad has got a fantastic blend of quality, experience and youth throughout the squad. In 2014 second rower Adam Prendergast was selected to tour Jamaica with BARLA GB Under 23's after representing Lancashire with fellow Maries representatives Gavin Conroy and Leighton Smith. In 2014 Leighton Smith and Chris Lunt were selected on the successful NWML England Lionhearts tour to Canada both starting and starring in defeating the Canadian National team. The Maries are always attracting players there is a number of ex pros including Scott Yates and Jonny Leather are also amongst the playing squad.

In 2015 the Maries are looking to go one step further and improve again and are looking for the right head coach to do this. New ideas, commitment and ability to develop people is important is this opportunity. There really is a talented group of players that are always looking at getting better. A friendly club with a good player base, they are looking for positive and ambitious personnel to take the club onto the next level in 2015. There will be an opportunity to develop yourself as a coach as well with support from the club on subsidising coaching courses and developing yourself even further.
