Croydon Hurricanes on the move...?

Recommended Posts

It looks likely that Croydon Hurricanes will be forced to move from their current home at Lanfranc School to a public playing field, because of a significant hike in the cost of playing out of the school facilities. For example, I heard they they were looking to charge £800 for use of floodlights one evening a week for two months!

What's shocking about this is that only four years ago the RFL Facilities Trust made a huge (six figure?) contribution to the building of the school's floodlit G3 pitch, complete with 10m high security fencing, which was marked out for both RL and soccer. Once built the school seemed to put every obstacle in the way of South London Storm, Croydon Hurricanes and Rugby League. Now it appears they've got their way, and the sport that funded the facility has been shunted out.

How has this been allowed to happen?

I remember this.  Surely when the RFL handed over this huge amount of money they got some kind of agreement over the use of these facilities.  When St Albans played there in Storms first season at the school, there was problems then over the school not opening facilities and not opening changing rooms/ canteen on the match day.

They have approached us about joining together as the Hurricanes are now looking at an Open Age team. Makes sense to work together. We're happy to continue under the Hurricanes banner whilst retaining the Storm name at Masters.

The Hurricanes were born out of Storm. Just think of it as elderly parents moving in with their kids!!! Still the same family...

I understand that Croydon council is going to provide a pitch down at Lloyd Park. It's a very accessible location which should help with recruitment.
