  1. In an ideal world : Step 1 ) Make the best of what you have for now, raise every standards as much as possible (some clubs can't do much more than they currently do, others have a lot of room to improve). Step 2 ) You now have a better product than can incite mid-size towns from non-heartland to join (think Salon, Roanne and obviously Atlantisman's Carpentras !). These teams remplace the smallest village ones and the reserves teams, bringing new money and new fans. You have now a real semi-pro league with minimum standards across every teams, the best of the bunch (Carcassonne, possibly Albi), being not far from full time professionalism. Step 3) Elevate the thing to RFL Championship status with cross-Manche play off, and a direct access to Super League (whatever be the situation of P/R to SL by then) which then make it possible for larger projects from much bigger towns (Lyon, Bordeaux, a non basket case Avignon) to be put forward with an eye to Super League (that it may or may not be achieved is beyond the point) Step 4) Enjoy a decent coherent package of french RL live on your TV !
  2. There should be a movie about it sone day. How the sport was set up, how it grew, how it was killed off is is one the (true) best story you can write about sport.
  3. After one ###### year lying at the bottom of the table, and with a great economic disadvantage... Yeah no ... That's not how you grow new markets. Nobody does that in this world because professional sport doesn't work that way.
  4. For comparison's sake, do we have any number for english clubs ? I remember that some years ago it was already claimed that Catalans had the biggest private sponsorship of any SL club.
  5. Unlikely. Local stadiums are either too big (La Beaujoire) or too small (RU ground and former FC Nantes stadium) Generally speaking, it will be a very southern competition. I believe they will try to have something in Paris (with RU Racing 92 Arena as the best option IMO), but I won't be surprised if we end up with nothing in the northern half of the country... and that would be ok. Edit: this thread has been fully highjacked
  6. Sounds good, maybe a tad higher Group Stage : France games : 15-20K England games : 10-20K (heavy depending on the number of english travelling fans) AUS, NZ games : 8-12K Other games : 5-8K *Possibly a opening double header (France and England) in Paris or somewhere could boost the numbers KO Rounds Quarter-finals : 10-20K (more assuming a french quarter final) Semi-finals : 15-25K Final : 25-40K Pricing will be way cheaper, key being each host cities treats it as a special event, a once in a lifetime thing (so they really shouldn't spread the tournament too thin with too many hosts)
  7. You're almost there. Way too many pixels for a C64 game though.
  8. I don't understand how 65K+ without the home nation is seen as a disaster by some. There are only 3 other sports in the world who could dream of such figures In three years, it will be half of that (if we are lucky), what will be the comments then ?
  9. Considering how weak the heritage rule is... I'd say spending 5 minutes in a airport somewhere as a residency rule would be ok.
  10. I'd say he has became (partially) so once the english game invited french clubs (originally both Paris and Toulouse) to join the SL in 1995. At that time, I believe the proposal came form the british side and not the french one. I think this implies some kind of responsibility. Somewhat, having french club(s) in the english system was never really thought through nor what it could/should imply for both sides of the channels. We need a long-term contract that would explicit what this french experiment is about, what the end goal is and what should be made both sides to achieve it. It's never too late I guess.
  11. If you read the word "budget" on a french article, it will always refer to the club overall budget. The player salaries are basically never disclosed, but it can usually be estimated to be around 25-30% of that figure. The figure you are quoting for Lézignan is (at best) the overall club budget. I can't make myself clearer than that.
  12. The biggest earners in Nationale 1 (Nationale 1 is the new third tier, Nationale 2 is the new 4th tier, and Fédérale 1 is now only the 5th tier) are likely to be foreigners. And with 40+ guys on the payroll, money is still spread kinda thin.
