Cameron Smith on the money with his views

Nice to hear that from a player who has such an Origin reputation.

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

Mal has it wrong though..mid week games should be against wales,scotland,ireland..not yorkshire or lancashire rep sides

Come on. And miss the opportunity to revive England's own state of origin?

Where's your forward thinking?

There should be a couple of games Australia against France. One game in Paris and one in Toulouse or Avignon.

And for something original and unusual, how about a mid-week game against Southern England Origin (Sarginson, Clubb, McMeeken, Channing, Dollapi, Caton-Brown, Dixon, etc.)?

A financial reward for the grand finalists to play the Kangaroos on tour first at home before they have rested, throw in a couple of mid week tests against France and Scotland or others if in a position to assemble a reasonable squad should be suitable enough to build a suitable five/six week tour?

My theory is that a tour like this only once every four years will capture the imagination of the general public more than a four nations could. I would anticipate crowds at the two club games would be sell outs as well as huge turnover from three packed stadiums holding 45k+ would be financially of interest to the governing bodies. The Kangaroos brand would be rewarded and the profile of the sport in England at least would be increased as well.

Would it really be too hard to achieve?

it's almost like Mal and I discussed this after my post...

I'd have France and Wales as priority.

Even worse though he then suggests a touring England (I'll ignore the GB suggestion) should play NSW country and City instead of PNG or Fiji!

Still though, great comments from Cam Smith who seems to have his head screwed on.

To pull Cameron Smith up on this a touch, this same ###### is spouted out every single year when international series are in full swing. Then the Aussies decide to take the year off completely or to dump the Anzac test. Origin comes around and it is the pinnacle even if half the world's best players can't participate.

The worst culprits in all this are the Sydney and Brisbane media who are so far up their own backsides they think the world revolves around bl***dy Origin.

Mal is living in fantasy land with his mid-week games against Yorkshire and Lancashire. It is not 1986, we are out of season over here. Why not undertake a proper trip to France during a series? Do some development work, play France in France etc. If you are going to play midweek games in the UK then play Wales or England Knights but preferably international teams.

I'm glad Mal is such an internationalist now after spending over a decade luring players away from playing for their countries to commit to Origin or to play Queensland U20s and miss a test match.

I don't think Coote could be more condescending to Scottish RL if he tried.

I hardy think Cameron Smith is to blame for this

He was one of the core group of experienced players who 'needed a rest' in 2012 (a year before the World Cup) and again in 2015. When was he complaining about being deprived of International RL then?

I love the guy he is a legend but he is also the ultimate diplomat.

It's an embarrassment. It's hard to believe somebody could have so little self-awareness.

It smells of being rounded up by Steve McCormack and the Scotland set-up rather than having any desire to play for Scotland. Who knows whether that is the sales pitch Scotland RL are giving to the likes of Coote and Linnet? Play for us put yourself in the shop window for Aus rep football?

It goes like this.

He's hoping to get an origin spot, which in turn he hopes will get him a test jumper.

The answer should be though once you have played for a country at senior level (in his case Scotland) you should be allowed to play for another country. That what stop all this country hopping

I'd say that's exactly what they were told.

Will we ever take anything positive out of a Story?

It should be a good News story but instead we pick it apart and find a negative spin.

This games supporters are its worst enemy in many ways.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.
