Ideas for the shirt for 2017

Nice to see on twitter that the amber ribbon will be involved in getting ideas for the the new design of the club's shirts for 2017.

Getting the fans involved means we will only have ourselves to blame on what design we want.

Nice to bring back the red amber and black would be my design.

Would supporters buy a new red and Amber and black hooped shirt every season though?

Now shoot me down in flames and tell me I'm an idiot but why exactly do we need replica shirts?

I ask this because, as far as I know, we have failed to achieve our target sales a number of times in recent seasons, costing the club a chunk of money it can ill afford. Why don't we simply produce a nice fairly traditional design for the team, pay what it costs for those and get on with it? It won't cause anguish amongst the fans, as hardly any buy the shirt in the first instance, and the club can budget with certainty and simplicity.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

I've always said

Fancy shirt for home

And red,amber,black hoops as away

You sell the new home shirt

With a offer maybe linked to a season ticket

And tinker with the hoops design

Maybe retro shirt of the old designs

The home kit would have to be a colour other than red, Amber and black then. Imagine the uproar when we run out in a green, pink or blue kit...

I note the Amber ribbon have been asked to help with the new shirt design, via Facebook!!  I support the principle of consultation ... but!!!  .. I don't do ..and never will do Facebook!!  .. so if anyone on here would like to represent my opinion.. it is very much as Coolie states above!!  I also usually buy a shirt when its worn out or doesn't fit me anymore ..... why budget for a new shirt every year, when, if its well made, it might last 2 ?? ... or less if I tear it off in the frustration of under performance!!

Couple of ideas. First of all I can see the argument of not selling the shirts, I am perhaps leaning to that option myself, however when we turn round to the new supplier and say we just would like 30 playing shirts, can't see it going down too well.

But my other two ideas are; 1. Instead of selling replica shirts, have some vintage hopped shirts, perhaps long sleeved and with the old black colour and obviously with the old crest. I no perhaps many people did or still do have this shirt but it's on the small side. Or the want their children to wear the old shirts.

Other option is having an away shirt that supports a local charity. We don't make no money from shirts. And we feel the club has lost that community spirit. So for example we have a shirt that supports Kirkwood Hospice, predominately yellow/Amber like the hospices colours and for every shirt we sell we give X amount to them. Maybe not a money making exercise but certainly wouldn't damage our reputation.

Interesting that both Wakefield and now Hunslet have abandoned the Wildcats and Hawks nicknames. Should Dewsbury do the same with the Rams nickname?

With regards to the shirts Red, Amber and Black traditional shirts for the home design and then something stupid that pleases the kids for an away shirt. Job done.

Why not consider looking at some of the shirts from clubs with the same colours, such as Richmond RU, PNG etc, and simply modify them - got to be cheaper than starting from scratch.

Censorship ends in logical completeness when nobody is allowed to read any books except the books that nobody reads.

Please its depressing enough so no more mainly Black shirts    ...

Perhaps stick with red , amber , black and add a white hoop    ;  or biased on the 1975 shirt but white [not black] with r.a.b inverted chevrons ..?

and like the 1999 approx  shirt  the white one with the green, blue drawing of a rams head  again could be any colours .  as away shirt

.

And I would go the total opposite and drop the Batley from our name and become just the bulldogs! Much more marketing potential.

Off topic but has to be said!!

Yes right  ..... deny your heritage and turn your club into a franchise  ...   some rich guy could then buy said franchise and relocate you in Birmingham!!   ..... a very dangerous precedent!

Whats happening with your shirts next year??

You can't deny and nor would I our past and present history I just belive you have to modernise to survive and succeed. I ain't bothered about SL but I do want more than 600 fans each week. And in regards our shirts who knows I have six and there all different lol

How about this for an idea

A pledge shirt

Some kind of traditional shirt

Create a board in the royal suite where if you buy "the pledge shirt" for an initial £50

This gets your name on the board

Then at the end of the season you can get your (pledge shirt) personalised and signed by the team for a tenner.

People need to feel connected again..merely buying a shirt is not enough no more.

Then next year have another pledge shirt..a different design

All new buyers then pay £50 all those who bought the first season get on for £40 same again signed and personalised for a tenner at the end of the season.

Third season if you've bought for the previous 2 seasons you become a gold member and get your shirt for £30 (which i would imagine is around about cost price) your name is changed on the board into gold lettering and your entered into a prize draw with a few prizes.

Just trying to create something unique and special for the rams supporters.

The pledge shirts I presume could be embroidered with your name and pledge number

Too complicated. £50 for a shirt isn't realistic and neither is a three year plan.

Do like the pledge numbers idea though.

I understand your thinking MR but we should simply be sourcing playing shirts. If they aren't intended to be sold as replicas then there are only cost limitations and sponsors logos to consider. I suspect that the supply agreements that some clubs get themselves into are actually simply win-win for the suppliers - sell enough and we make a nice profit, don't sell enough and you must compensate up to the point of that nice profit.

Continually having to compensate a supplier because of unrealistic sales projections is no good at all, is it?

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Your final point is a good one. To avoid us losing (not winning either) can't we reveal the design and give a cut off date for when shirts should be ordered and paid for by supporters. It does mean you can't purchase throughout the season but can't see there being many sales mid season anyways.

Different topic but my two favourite away shirts have been the White, green and blue with ram on the front and the black and blue away strip we had I think in 2000. Sponsored by Al Murad if I'm not wrong.

There will be an announcement shortly on how to enter a design.

It had been announced through Facebook and the website, but there will be ways to enter on and off line.

Now shoot me down in flames and tell me I'm an idiot but why exactly do we need replica shirts?

I think the biggest benefit to selling replica shirts is marketing for the club and it's sponsors. In an ideal world you need a shirt which is smart enough for people to wear other than for match days. The newer style of man made material shirts is not really smart enough to where for going out. The old heavy cotton ones were to some degree, you would often see people wearing them whilst out shopping or in bars etc. and you could see people out and about in them during the week. The more people see your brand the more likely they are to support it. It makes you wonder just how many of the general population of either batley or Dewsbury would actually recognise the shirt of either club if they saw them being worn in tescos these days. Maybe that could be the key to getting more supporters. Maybe rather than spending lots of money advertising games, subsidise shirts and get people especially the kids wearing them out and about, rather than Man United or Barcelona kits to play out in. That would be the best form of advertising I could think of, at least it would keep the brand in people's minds.
