All joking aside, the RFL has done a few, a lot of dumb things in the past but am I alone thinking this is the daftest one ever.

How are the Canadians going to keep within the cap, already they have appointed an expensive coaching set-up, or is this another example of the RFL turning a blind eye when it suits them.

Can they really expect part-time players, all of them having real jobs as well, to set off for Canada on a Thursday, play on Saturday, fly back on Sunday and be ready for work on Monday morning.

It's time for the clubs in the Championship to stand up to the RFL and let them know this is unacceptable on every level.

I have to disagree on this.

I think it's a great initiative.

The Canadians are fully funding the project, it's new money coming into the game. The RFL and the game are crying out for investors. Here are a group of very rich people who are paying your open up a new market.

I have been asking players how they feel about it and I haven't had a negative reply. I suspect some of the players will just take a couple of days holiday from their annual entitlement. The self employed will have plenty of time to make other arrangements.

At the club's meeting earlier this year there wasn't one dissenting voice.

It's a bold step, but the game needs to look at ways it can develop in the 21st Century.

IF the North American market can be opened up what a boost that would give to the finances of the game.

There is an article in today's paper about James Dyson ( vacuum cleaners). He says the only way to succeed is to risk failure.

The game needs to think outside of the box and it is!

I'm with SJD on this one, how can they expect a working man not only take extra time off but be ready to get up early Monday morning to go to work? Even if you are self employed you still have to work to earn money.

I've just taken a look at your post on the Rochdale forum, it's a very good, well researched, evidence based argument.  I thought this new initiative was a daft one before, having read your post I know it's a daft one; great post.

My thought's on this are, it can only be bad for the Raiders, we have saved for the last few years for ground improvements, new lights etc, the board have reduced the clubs debts, and started an academy, the club are gradually improving on the field, all of this with no help from anyone, but the rfl bringing in new teams to the championship 1 division, means the rest of the teams are fighting for one promotion place, which to me is ridiculous.

Here's a positive point

We could have an easier trip to Toronto than any other club.

A ten minute walk to Buccleuch dock, jump on a ship to Toronto Harbour. .jobs a good 'un.

If the Invincibles could do it in 1946, 70 years on it would be doddle.

I really don't know what the RFL are thinking. I agree with SJD and many others I've spoke too. If the Toronto millionaires want to play every game in England, that's fair enough, but how do expect a player from any team get on a plane for 7 and a half hours ( that's only the flight time, not the time to get to the airport and waiting in departures ) and stay in that country for 3/4 days. Lets say they travelled on a Friday early morning, get there by tea time to the hotel. On Saturday they get a bit of practice while being a bit jet lagged. Play the game on Sunday. On Monday they travel back home, get into Manchester or any other airport about 4 or 5. Travel home too where they live and be back work on a Tuesday. I don't think so. That's only the players. Were not all rich. How do you expect a supporter to book a long weekend to Canada. The total expense would be too great. You wouldn't go away for a long weekend, you'd have to book a full holiday. It's just ridiculous.

These are the other places we could go with the same flight time:

Tehran, Iran

Tbilisi, Georgia

New York, Usa

Before the RFL conquer the world, concentrate on the south of England where Union has a stronghold

A group of rich Canadian (and Australian ) business men want to throw money at Rugby league. They believe they can make a success of it.

The model they are using is very familiar to N.American sports. Over there teams often travel through 4 or 5 time zones to play games ( it's a bit like travelling from Barrow to Batley you leave Barrow at 10am and arrive in Yorkshire in the 1970's

The Canadians have said they will supply visiting clubs with as many tickets as they want to sell to their own supporters and keep 100% of the sales. I know there wouldn't be a lot of people taking up the offer but I'm sure there are supporters that would see it as a bit of an adventure.

I gave been asking players what they think of it and every one that I have asked thinks a great idea.

We have to do something different, the game is withering away. Have a look at CP tomorrow and calculate the average age of the punters. Count the number of under U21's and school kids. I hate to say it but I bet you any money you like that there were dozens at Holker Street today.

As I say these business men are prepared to invest money in our game. I wish there were more that would.

Add an international dimension to the sport and we just might find a few more.

Of course it's mad! But what have we got to lose?

Still don't think it a good idea! How about a Canadian super league team so they would play other full time teams, why pick on the lowest league?

Because we have now got a P&R system.

You have to start at the bottom and earn the right to go up. If we had had a franchise system they could have bought their place at the top table.

Fans of the lower league teams didn't like that as it condemned them to never getting a place in the sun.

Can you imagine what the Leigh fans would have said had Toulouse and Toronto leap frogged them?
