Gloucestershire 18, Hunslet 26

So maybe Bramald does read this forum after all then?!?! Thomas recalled to the half-backs, and Flanagan also back on the bench. Just what we'd all been asking for wasn't it? ...

Well here's the punchline ... it didn't really make a lot of difference! Although we were generally in control throughout, it was another unremarkable performance that again had me thinking wouldn't have seen us beat any of the top six. In fact after 25 minutes or so we were losing this one, but at this stage the heavens opened and thankfully we seemed able to deal with the change in conditions much better than Gloucestershire, and the tries to Faal and Flanagan we scored in this period were key to winning the game.

The second half we huffed and puffed and both hookers were sent off after a set-to at the play-the-ball. We were able to close the game out without much danger, but with the teams largely cancelling each other out. Few stand out performers in all honesty, Faal took his tries well but we created few clear-cut chances. The left wing side of Barnett, Mvududu and Normington was unusually quiet yesterday.

Think a week off might have come at a good time, plenty of work to do before the Skolars match which is now a must-win if we are to get into the top half of the table.

Thought Gloucester played a better style of rugby but Flanagan was the difference when he came on. Soon as he was sent off Gloucester came back at us.

Tackling is appalling and we have no moves.

Luckily we have easier run in than Newcastle so I reckon 8th.

Gonna miss Flanagan while banned though.

I'm sure I read somewhere at the start of the season that when everybody has played everybody else once (10th July) there are another seven fixtures, along the lines of the Super 8s we had in the Championship last year. Otherwise it seems incredibly early for the regular league season to be ending. The playoffs then come after that.

Anybody confirm? Also how will the extra seven fixtures be determined? Presumably a "selection" of the reverse of the fixtures that have been played in the first half of the season (so we could have Gloucester at home for example, and Toulouse away)

Hmmmm, so if we don't make the top eight then, we will be playing for the "League 1 Shield" ... quite possibly the most valueless and irrelevant trophy ever competed for in professional sport!

I don't believe we have a hope in hell of winning promotion tbh, but surely to god we should be capable of avoiding the indignity of playing for the "League 1 Shield" ?? :unsure:The London Skolars match is (marginally) more important than I thought now!

It doesn't say whether the Super8-style fixtures will be the reverse of the fixtures played in the regular season. It ought to be, but I don't see how it can be, because that might not give you the required number of home and away games for this section of the season. I await to see what happens with vague interest ...
