dual reg

Recommended Posts

After reading this forum for some time i took the time to register finally.

i attended the YML meeting this week and one topic was dual reg.

they have asked teams to vote on wether they want it in our league this year stating it should be rugby for all which is fair enough. They stated theres at least 50 part-time semi-pro players that would be eligable surely this means that 50 local lads who play for the love of the game would miss out on playing??

So why should our clubs feel obliged to give lads game time surely its upto the pro clubs to serve theyre best intrests by setting up reserve/acadamy teams.

Im all for lads bettering thereselves but at this moment in time its hard enough to get lads playing and if someone has trained all preseason and turns up each week only to get dropped for a lad who was not wanted by his pro team this week could kill our game! We need the not so talented players like it or not.

just thought id get some of your thoughts on the topic?

It's a tough one. In the midlands and south because there aren't enough teams to have the league's separate we have our strongest amateur teams playing in the same league as professional reserve teams and for the most part it works, though there were some issues with Gloucestershire All Golds and Bristol Sonics. There is some dual registration allowed but, apart from reserve teams, it seems to mainly be in Wales.

I can see the case for a limited number of fringe League 1 players playing in the NCL but think Championship players in the YML would be unrealistic. The main concern I have with a professional reserve grade starting is it would take lots more players out of the amateur game

Ask them to name/ list the 50. I bet they can't

Dual Reg doesn't work in the pro game and will only (further) ruin the amateur game

Currently certain people in both BARLA and the RFL only have their egos to promote rather than the game in general

Yes everyone should be able to play but DR isn't the answer

Last year my local team played a couple of ncl 'A' teams which had x amount of ncl players in they stood out and the team got beat there was no way of policing how many played so if you add into the mix the semi pros i know the league said only 3 can play but who will police it?

Plus if these teams play 3/4 ncl players and 3 pro players its not an even playing field and amatuer players who play for the love of the game will become dis hearted and stop

If there is any dual reg agreement in place it needs to be worked out at NCL level not with the regional leagues.

You'd end up with a daft situations where a good player would be eligible for your second team but not your first. That's a backwards way of doing things

The NCL rejected dual reg for varying issues that the clubs had, those issues need to be worked out before progressing. Not try and bypass and go after regional leagues

It's an issue at Pro clubs that stems from them not having to run A teams. With the expectation that it's the community clubs problem to sort out which it clearly isn't

I don't know why they asking the clubs to vote, I know one club who have already been approached and also in the deal is a place in the NCL.

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.

Part of the deal is a place in the NCL? How so? The member clubs vote on who's allowed in not the RFL.

Bloody hell mate, how far has your head been in the sand. The club I'm talking about has been banded about on here months before the players even got asked.
