Former Penrith Panthers coach Matt Elliott to coach Warriors

Recommended Posts

According to The Daily Telegraph, the former Penrith Panthers coach has been given the job for two seasons.

It ends weeks of speculation about the vacant Warriors position and comes the day after Melbourne premiership-winning coach Craig Bellamy rejected a $4 million offer to cross the Tasman.

Elliott was moved on from Penrith late last year in a clean-out triggered by Panthers general manager Phil Gould. He was an assistant coach to

Brian Smith at the Roosters in 2012 but was told he wasn't wanted by incoming coach Trent Robinson.

He has been given the job despite a score of candidates, including Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens, David Kidwell and Stephen Kearney.
