USA 2021 World Cup Bid

Recommended Posts

Great article in RL world about the US World Cup bid,it's nice to have an option of another G20 country in the mix to host.

I'm still sceptical though and my main source of scepticism and a weak point in the bid and the proposed league is that they've made no effort to include the USARL.

Without a wholistic approach that aims to bring RL to the states involving the governing body I really struggle to see how it can be taken seriously.

Another alarm bell that started ringing was that the guy behind this is linked to the new Union Pro Rugby comp.....that's a game changer and could have significant ramifications down the track.

This bid lacks the involvement of real RL people or at least the passion of an Eric Perez, I don't see that enthusiasm here it seems very clinical.

The guy in question, Jason Moore, isn't involved in Pro Rugby but was part of a different group that was aiming to start a US competition (APRC American Professional Rugby Competition)  that never went anywhere.

But I'd still agree that he perhaps seems to be interested in what will make money.

For me, it is still a fanciful suggestion that USA can host the WC. Fortunately there is time (albeit very little in the grand scheme of things) to address the number one concern for the governing body...

What should be the RLIF's number one priority in running a WC?

Making a profit.

Get that secured and then there is hope that the WC can be hosted there to help achieve all the secondary goals such as exposure and development.
