On the one day a week where I work at home I like leaving the news on in the background but it's just wall-to-wall coverage of Liz's 90th birthday.  Come on, surely there's more important things going on than an over-privileged old woman having a birthday.

90 Years ago today a woman called Elizabeth gave birth to a woman adored by many. She was me mam!!!!

Elizabeth Hambleton had walked miles to the mexborough Montagu Hospital and had collapsed on the steps, exhausted and undernourished in what was real austere times. 'Me mam', Rita was born into a life of economic and social depression and experienced hard times. She was the one who mended me each time I broke myself!!

So when I hear this psychophantic cobblers going on it really does prompt me into greater outpourings of republicanism.....

I love the fact that as part of the celebrations Royal Mail are issuing a stamp with a picture of her head on it!.

On the radio they announced that David Cameron had said in tribute that " she is full of humility"???? Everyone that sees her has to bow or curtsey, walk backwards and always address her as either Ma'am or Your Majesty. There's not a lot of humility there.

I ve no time for any of the Royals except the Queen herself. The younger generations are nothing but hangers-on.I know Andrew served in the Falklands but since then he and his awful ex wife and daughters have made a living out of doing nothing. And don t get me started on Kate!I think when the Queen dies we should become a republic but who would be president?

Trump

I m in Lafayette Louisiana at the moment and I m just flicking through the hundreds of channels on the hotel TV.Trump and his family are on one of the major channels answering questions from the public.Their answers are squirm making.I hope it is the TV colour that is wrongly adjusted because his face looks the most odd shade I have ever seen and his wife has so much make up on.

If he wins the election and the other loony Boris becomes PM I m moving to the Borneo jungle to try to be safe!

I find it very hard to get worked up by either pro or anti-monarchist sentiment. Prince Andrew comes across as a pretty unpleasant type, but otherwise, I don't much care.

Mind you, if David Icke turns out to have been right all along, I reserve the right to change my opinion. ;)

I have really enjoyed all the coverage of Queenie's birthday.  It's been a breath of fresh air.  It's a heck of a lot nicer than watching the usual news, which invariably involves people being blown up or otherwise killed, earthquakes, floods and Jeremy Corbyn.  Give me celebrations for a woman who has steered a difficult ship through occasional rough seas since the 1950s and has done so with dignity and sound sense, not to mention the good she has done for our image abroad AND the tons of dosh she has brought into the country through being our biggest tourist attraction.

I'd have shut of the monarchy right now. Tonight. Get rid....

I realise I am in a minority. I don't stand for or sing the anthem.

My generation won't see the end of the monarchy.... but one day....

We should all be careful what we wish for.

Even if he gets in he won't still be there in 60 years time!  I think Lizzie has done a good job. She seems like a dedicated public servant.  But for me whose bed you're born in shouldn't be a qualification for Head of State.  If and when Charlie boy takes over I give the monarchy 5 years tops.

The chances of that happening are pretty much zero.

It won't happen in my lifetime....

Republicanism has about 14% of the uk population at the last polling I read. ..and that was some while ago.

There was no significant changes to the wealth of opinion supporting the monarchy/Republic last time I checked.

Until that 1:7 or so people starts to change the monarchy will continue with overwhelming support.

I'd get rid right now.... but it won't happen......yet!

The thing about Liz is that she has undoubtedly been a very dedicated public servant. However, with a hereditary system there are no guarantees that you will always get those qualities. Don't forget that she would not have become queen if it hadn't been for her feckless, self centred, Nazi loving uncle doing the right, but selfish, thing of abdicating.

In my firier days I used to say the only question in my mind is which wall.  I wouldn't go so far today, but I believe they are an anachronistic custom that needs to end if our country is to move to true equality of opportunity.  And having a reigning monarch who requires someone to hold the sample jar while he produces is not my idea of someone who should be head of state.

Prince dies.  Queen lives.  Funny old day.

Yes queen lives to be 90. Vicky dies at 62.  I know who I'll miss most/  Plus of course Kirstie who was only 41.   There's no justice.
