League 1 Super 8's format...anyone know it?

Recommended Posts

The top 8 sides play each other a second time and then they have playoffs.

1st Vs 2nd Winner promoted

The loser of this game then has semi finals and a final with teams 3, 4 and 5. The winner of this series gets promoted

Thanks, what's the split of home/away games for The top team?

Home & away games. If top 4 are the same per Super 8's who plays who where? York will have played Toulouse and Keighley away so do we play them at home or is it an open draw?

Isn't it based on finishing positions.

It's based on final postions top 4 have 4 home and 3 away as reward for finishing high in the league for instance toulouse if they finish top play 2 3 5 6 home and 4 7 8 away

Success does not consists in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

Postion Home Away

1 2356, 478

2 3467, 158

3 4578, 126

4 5681, 237

5 672, 1348

6 783, 1245

7 814, 2356

8 125, 3467

Think that's how it works

Brilliantly explained, many thanks for that.

Mark, isn't the system idealism that exposes the expansion team to division in the 1st half of the season and then let's them improve at the level their position dictates for the following season?

Conversely for the top teams, it makes the league more meaningful, as having won a few blow outs in the first part of the season, the intensity increases, giving them the best platform to compete in the Championship should they get promoted

Mmmm, possibly that is the theory. Sounds as good as anything Ive heard. My comments were rather more inspired by the fact that no-one seems to know what's going on in terms of structure, format, fixture lists and dates. The middle 8s and Championship 8s have their dates set and know what they are working towards. That may be true for League 1 but I just haven't seen or heard anything about it. Maybe it's just me. Link anyone?

At one of our regular meetings with the Board of Directors we discussed how difficult it is to sell this concept at League 1. North Wales Crusaders play our home games at the Racecourse which is now owned by Wrexham FC (actually a Supporters Trust), our last game against Toulouse was the last game there until August as the pitch is being worked on following a big Stereophonics concert on 2nd July, so our final 'home' game on 3rd July against Coventry Bears will be held at Chester RUFC. We then have an away game at Hunslet on 10th July (keep up at the back, I'll be asking questions later).

After this we have the split; we could make the top 8 (if we beat Coventry and Hunslet) or end up in the bottom 7. So we have no idea who we'll be playing, when we'll be playing or where we will be playing them.

Trying sell that to season ticket holding supporters is virtually impossible - even if we were to stay in the Racecourse for the whole season. How many home games do you get? When will they be played?

Add in the fact that once teams have fallow weeks and if your knocked out of the iPRO and Challenge Cups it can be weeks between games - supporters will spend their money and time elsewhere.  Its not very helpful in a season when we have struggled financially anyway.
