  1. This situation is down to the pathetic fixture planning by the RFL. For the last thirty years, they've been trying to find the perfect scenario for the lower tiers, but they just can't get it right. The chief exec is on a salary that touches a quarter of a million quid per year for running (more like crawling) the organisation. Oh well, I've got the game in Vegas to keep me occupied for at least another week. I wonder if the pitch will be a mud bath, played in a dilapidated stadium, with one kilowatt floodlights? Don't be daft, lad!
  2. Where do I have to look to see what the whole criteria and point scoring situation is? And also the IMG club listing's.
  3. Remember a few seasons back when we played Bradford on a beautiful, sunny afternoon and saw a record crowd at the ground? With a bit of luck in a few directions - form/weather/away support, the club could maybe achieve the same thing next year when it plays Wakefield. We might get the chance to have a wee in the new bogs behind the sticks as well.
  4. I've never really worked out which way it all works with the coaching scene. A bit like horse racing; do you back a brilliant rider (Frankie Dettorr) on a no name horse, or the other way round, a thorough bred champion that's ridden by a complete nobody? Is it the players who win the games or the coaches?
  5. Has big Mark got family members that he'll hand his crown over to, so keeping a succession process in place?
  6. The whole of the 2000 NFP winning squad. Brilliant occasion that season, but further down the line, the club nearly went bankrupt.
  7. When Dewsbury won the championship 50 years ago. (Crikey, that's flown by quick!) the game started its journey with promotion and relegation, which in my opinion has been the downfall of not necessarily the game, but certainly a lot of clubs. Being promoted was/is one thing. Actually staying there and progressing is another. Just look at probably a dozen teams that have done it and ended up in financial turmoil, then never, ever being the club that they once were. Our opponents from last week, Oldham are a good example of this and they're not on their own.
  8. So a field that's surrounded by a fence is classed as a stadium these days then?
  9. Are you two having a competition to see who gets the last word in? We've got London Skolars this weekend by the way.
  10. Getting back on side slowly, by a team that has just been tackling is a new phenomenon within the game. Watch any game on the telly, and they're all doing it. It must be an energy saving tactic to not run all the way back downfield, knowing that the play will catch up with you in a few tackles, thus saving your fuel tanks from expending a few bobs worth of juice.
  11. We need to understand a few home truths before we start taking about winning a trophy. The division that Dewsbury are going into will not be without its obstacles. Regardless of what quality some of the teams will be, the away day matches that they'll have to go to, will be very hard, due to the massive travelling times involved. Factor in that certain players could be unavailable because of work commitments etc, and/or injuries, head bangs and suspensions, then the tough suddenly becomes a whole lot tougher. I saw that somebody had said that we should sign younger players and develop them over time. Well, in the olden days when clubs had reserves, and colts/academy teams, you could sign a player and he was your property, which meant that this was a possibility. Fast forward to the present day and it's one team only, with just about everybody on a one year contract and a coach who needs a 'battle ready' team from the word go. It's not like it is in the NRL, where they have pathway systems, state of the art training and coaching facilities and massive amounts of finance, that can be used to develop their young players. Dewsbury are a semi pro setup, where money and income streams are very hard to come by indeed, and next season will get pretty much nothing in away support from other teams who visit. What also has to taken into account, not just next season, but all future ones, is the cost of running the whole club as well. Everyone knows about gas and electric bills going through the roof in our households, well it's no difference for a sporting/leisure/social enterprise that has big greedy floodlights, boilers etc. It's going to cost a fortune to just pay the utility bills at the club before anything else. I'm sure that 'Big Mark' has got his toughest job on his hands, since taking over the joint all those years ago, and a smart, financially minded bloke that he is, will know about all the pitfalls that are straight in front of him, with regard to getting the team and the club back to where he'd like it. Let's not get too excited about a trophy just yet.
  12. 50 years ago we were one of the best teams in the league. Winning the championship, running Australia close. All with international and county players, not to mention some very handy team players as well. I've seen seasons when we've struggled, but can't remember a season when we've been literally 'pumped' so many times in one season alone.
