  1. "Ooowooohoooo It's sinful... It's traaaaagic" Bloody hell, Wylie!
  2. Just been to see Pete Wylie live and he closed the set with 'Story of the Blues', so I expect it'll be a while before that ear worm leaves my head. You'll probably be stuck with it too, now that you've read this.
  3. Paul Cooke came across really well. Really eloquent, balanced, knowledgeable and insightful. More of him please.
  4. Very proud of the effort there tonight. What a poor pitch again, hard to play the ball. Now the Wire!
  5. Ratchford is on a massive run of consecutively successful kicks. Shame he’s not on the field!
  6. He once stepped off the pitch and walked amongst the away fans at Belle Vue after a particularly bad Wire performance. He just walked through the away fans, chatting and apologising. I've never seen anything like it. Massive respect, he didn't hide and actually did the opposite.
  7. I genuinely thought of you when I posted it, Futtocks It was such good fun. Yes it might seem dated but if you fill a theatre full of people and make them laugh until they cry for 3 hours then maybe don't analyse it and just let it be. There's no nastiness to it, no racism, no sexism, it is just daft and genuinely laugh-out-loud funny.
  8. See Karaoke thread above. Hollow Horse is always there, lurking at the back of the music bit of my head. I have lots of earworms, but when Shane McGowan died I had "The Old Main Drag" in my head for weeks, along with "Rainy Night in Soho" that everyone else was playing. After seeing Natalie Merchant live recently I had "King May" morning, noon and night in my head, which is a good thing. "Sons and Daughters" by The Decemberists is a proper nuisance. I guarantee 100% that if you watch this video, you'll get an earworm that goes "Hear all the bombs, fade away....." It all makes a nice change from The Wiggles and Teletubbies that get into your head when your kids are young. Apologies to young TRL parents if those things are still alive
  9. Just got back from Leeds Grand Theatre where we watched a live recording of the iconic radio 4 panel show. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud so much. We got Jack Dee, Rory Bremner, Pippa Evans, Tony Hawks and Marcus Brigstocke. Brigstocke stole the show for me but he was the most sweary so his stuff won't make the cut unless they are very clever with the editing. Such good fun - totally inconsequential, silly, slapstick, harmless humour. British comedy at its best, loads of childish innuendo and referencing various people like Jeremy Hardy; in particular reeling out old Barry Cryer jokes because they were in Leeds. I absolutely urge everyone to go and see this show if you can http://isihac.net/tour_dates.php
  10. I've only ever done karaoke in our kitchen, when my missus bought a really good machine that works with Spotify. It's surprisingly entertaining when there's a group get together and everyone has had a few. My go-to tune is Hollow Horse by the Icicle Works. That's how old I am. Be careful what you dream of, it may come up and surprise you*.... *One for John Drake and fellow greying/balding TRLers there
  11. Rugby League seems determined to kill itself at the exact moment it is perfectly placed to break into the big time. Peak RL.
  12. There are chunterings among north Leeds locals about the Loiners' style of play. I think with HKR in town this could be a fantastic match. Rervers won't be there to lie down and take one up the proverbial trumper. Looking forward to this.
  13. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/20259547.bradford-league-player-hits-50-nine-balls-baildon/ Here he is. Says he's a bowler I'm literally right behind him if there's ever any trouble! Seriously though, he's polite, helpful, happy, positive... everything you want in a parent when you're trying to run a sports club.
  14. We are in the 5th week of our winter nets on a Sunday afternoon. A young man of Afghan heritage heard about our club and brought his son to join in with the under 11s, which is the first year of hard ball cricket. The Dad, known as Q, never said anything about himself until I quizzed him. Turns out he plays semi-pro in the Bradford Premier League. He recently hit a half century off 9 balls, as I discovered when I googled his name later. He loved it so much that he's getting his DBS (cover to coach kids) and has thrown himself into our humble club. We've also got a couple of Afghan refugees referred to us by Leeds City Council. They have no family and don't even know how old they are. Their back story is not something you want to read about. Anyway, my new mate Q speaks their language, Pashto, and has taken them under his wing. They are all so full of joy when playing cricket and have found something that makes them, and me, deeply happy. I've said this before - cricket is the great unifying sport that transcends all colours and cultures, even more than football.
