  1. The only thing I can think on this one is that Smith had 4 cases on the disciplinary notes last year for late tackles. I think he was only charged and punished for one of them, but I wonder whether he had been receiving warning letters for the others. Maybe they are making a point.
  2. I do think the disciplinary are leaving themselves exposed to criticism at the moment. One of the issues I've had for a long time is that it is not unusual for them to have these instances where when anything is slightly away from the norm they struggle. I'm thinking things like the Morgan Knowles case for Saints, and things like this one from Dupree. Broadly speaking most things are fine and whilst some may think harsh, I'm supportive of the move to punish foul play in the interests of player welfare. However, they do seem to undermine their own efforts with cases like this where they almost go to great lengths to mitigate the players' actions. And I think it was absolutely classless for them to do what they did with Harry Smith earlier in the year. The Dupree incident being deemed to be broadly fine just doesn't pass the sniff test. It was very dangerous imo and really should have seen a ban in the interests of player welfare.
  3. Of course it might be different. But tbh, the conversation doesn't mean anything - whenever we are playing them we are trying to beat them, it's not as if we can drive a change of strategy by actually trying to win. So it's pretty much an irrelevant point that people make. All it does is excuse the Aussies lethargy and puts the blame on the losing team. It does also ignore the fact that there are many, many examples of growth where teams are dominant.
  4. Yeah, the article was interesting as it wasn't something I was aware of, and the comments from the player were positive about the club and RFL - it felt weird to have any negative at all in there.
  5. This offer is an annual one when we play French teams and I don't think there is much controversy tbh. I think it's a great opportunity and even if you're a season ticket holder it's a chance maybe to get new people along. My general view on these things is that season ticket holders usually want the club to do well, and it was a good event at the weekend, far better than closing the stand.
  6. This was a weird line in Aaron Bower's article: but the sight of London’s physio entering the field with a handful of dates specifically for the Broncos’ Hakim Miloudi to break his fast while the game continued perhaps emphasised the work rugby league still has to do to recognise Muslim athletes. The quotes in the article then broadly sing the praises of the club's and the RFL. Is it just a natural instinct to be critical of the sport in every article?
  7. Having read UTK's analysis in there, there are some very selective stats, and quoting 18k crowds as proof of interest peaks is not compelling. They quote 2014 when the Kiwis beat the Aussies twice of three Tests that year. In 2014 they got 47k at Brisbane, 12m later it dropped to 32k in the same ground. The actual evidence showed the average crowd dropped that following year.
  8. In an era where the Kiwis have beaten the Aussies with a decent level fo regularity, there is still a lack of positive change I. E. The Aussies are still not particularly interested in internationals. People for years gave them a pass because nobody could beat them, yet the Kiwis have beaten them in plenty of finals, in Tri-Nations, Four Nations and a World Cup, as well as one-off tests, yet this hasn't changed anything. They will play a half-hearted Pacific Nations this year that hasn't been scheduled yet, their last home game against the Kiwis was 20k at Melbourne, the last final between these was 13k in NZ. Hardly halcyon days. People claim things will be good if England won some games, but there is zero evidence that the international game is better when the Kiwis beat the Aussies regularly. Anzac Tests have been cancelled, as has the 4N, World Cups dwindling. No evidence that the Aussies losing will increase interest.
  9. Exactly, it should be content that people share, and I've done so here. I don't think we need to be too precious.
  10. Yeah I think that's it. We were relatively close (as in a block away), I was relieved to see the official come over, speak to the stewards and give the ref the thumbs up.
  11. If anything it can only have been shrapnel, but tbh quite quickly there were people near there laughing and no paramedics etc, so assume it didn't. Had it landed fully on somebody it would have very, very serious.
  12. Yeah, it got hit with some force, but it really shouldn't have snapped off the bracket. It actually shook me up during the game.
  13. Really horrible incident during the game. From one of Thewlis' conversions the ball hit a speaker that was hanging from the roof of the East stand. It snapped off and fell 30/40m to the ground. It was a miracle that nobody was hit, as underneath the speakers are the disabled seats. It genuinely would have killed somebody, and seeing it happen in real time was sickening. Thankfully nobody was hurt, but I expect there will be some safety checks at the ground this week.
