Predictions

Well the nights are drawing in, most clubs have pretty well completed their recruitment, players are getting stuck into preseason and Boxing Day isn't too far off. So how do you see the league panning out next year? In my view it is likely to break into two, or three, distinct groups, and they will largely be dictated by budgets. However the influence that DR might play with one or two clubs, the potential for financial meltdown always lurking around the corner, and the impact of injuries all lend an element of uncertainty.

I have attempted an objective analysis coupled with guessing how the wind will blow, so here are my predictions for what they are worth:

1. Hull KR

2. London

3. Bradford

4. Batley

5. Featherstone

6. Toulouse

7. Halifax

8. Dewsbury

9. Oldham

10. Sheffield

11. Rochdale

12. Swinton

What do the rest of you think?

Must say the thought of the new season hasn't got me excited, think it will be a struggle from the start, middle and end.

1=Hull K R... Super league team in the championship

2=London... Could be ready to challenge back into Super League.

3=Batley... Serious contenders for minimum top 4.

4=Featherstone... The extra prize money and help from Leeds will help.

5=Bradford... Another season of disappointment, look weaker too.

6=Toulouse... Will be strong at home, full time will help.

7=Halifax... Lost players,lack of money won't help.

8=Oldham... Improved the squad for 2017,maybe the surprise team.

9=Swinton...Will be stronger,bought well.

10=Rams...Lost vital players, need a exciting half back to bring a spark back to the club.

11=Eagles...Lost players,no home. Will be hard to compete at this level.

12=Rochdale... Might struggle after been promoted, have they got the players to survive??

I reckon Leeds will loan a few players to Sheffield to see them right, which could hinder Featherstone.

1. Hull KR

2. London

3. Bradford

4. Toulouse

5. Featherstone

6. Batley

7. Sheffield

8. Halifax

9. Swinton

10. Dewsbury

11. Oldham

12. Rochdale

As good as we look on paper, I've never seen us meet expectations, we only seem to play well when we are written off. The weight of expectation is huge, given the signings, and I think it will take a while to find our best 17 with so many changes. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it will be a slow start to the season for us. I also reckon fax will DR mid way through the season. I like the look of Swinton this time, I reckon Gore will really improve them so they might even sneak into the top

Not far off I'd say Dogfather. Think Batley could struggle with the weight of expectation and only get fifth or sixth, Toulouse complete unknowns, and Sheffield will find a way - they always do. The bottom four will be any permutation of the four you mention, but I look at our probable starting line up, and we haven't strengthened in the important areas. Walshaw for Grady and Potts for Grant, but apart from that, it will be the same old faces who disappointed in 2015, which could leave us anywhere from 9th to bottom - hope I'm wrong Of course with the uncertain element of DR, that whole table could end up @rse about tip.  ;)

Censorship ends in logical completeness when nobody is allowed to read any books except the books that nobody reads.

As stated in another subject - I am 90% sure Aston will spend a lot of time back at Sheffield and they always find a way.

1. Hull KR - I can't see them losing a game - better squad and coach than Leigh and we all feared them.

2. Bradford - coach gets a full season and can bring in players he wants

3. London - only getting stronger

4. Batley - could even finish higher, perhaps still being part time, fitness may prove the difference between the above three - incredible recruitment

5. Fax - will improve on a disappointing season, Grady will flourish behind Murrell, Moore and Johnston

6. Toulouse - win a lot of home games but away from home will find there's a big jump between Champ and L1

7. Fev - no consistency in their team with DR, Thacks is good but not getting any younger and will rely on Carlisle to go forward.

8. Swinton - another part time team that have recruited well, like someone said Gore will improve them

9. Sheffield - looks like they'll be playing at either Hillsborough or Wakey and will always find a way. Haven't lost as many players others suggest. They'll get players from anyone and anywhere.

10. Oldham - believe Scott Naylor is a good coach, now used to their new ground and can convert close defeats to wins - should survive

11. Dewsbury - need a resurgence and a half back. Struggling to think where our strengths are and relying on Guzdek and Kain to go forward.

12. Rochdale - scraped into to the league but will fall out of it. Warrington have trimmed down on their squad meaning the DR might not be as effective as last season.

I think, with our current squad, we could finish anywhere from 10th to 12th .... which means relegation is a real possibility!!  What does that do to the prize money??  What is the difference in prize money between 8th and relegation, and the future income in D1??

Like many others on this forum I have banged on about the need for a halfback!!  ... a good halfback with our current squad could see us 8th .....  no halfback is probably relegation!!  ....   do the maths ...  the investment does pay back ??

Perhaps we could get one on a season long loan!!

Think the league is divided into 3 sections

Top section

Hull kr

London

Batley

Middle section

Featherstone

Halifax

Bradford

Toulouse

Bottom section

Dewsbury

Sheffield

Oldham

Swinton

Rochdale

Top section analysis

Hull kr no problem top 4

London recruitment has or should improve them

Batley good recruitment only doubt is how diskin goes in his first season

Middle analysis

The remaining place in the top 4 could be achieved by any of those teams in this section

Featherstone splashed the cash what halifax ain't got,Bradford lost a few but signed a few, toulouse I expect to do well at home but travel poorly

Bottom section analysis

Swinton and oldham have built on last season,Rochdale will be the whipping boys to a degree and no doubt beat us in at least one game over the season.

Sheffield not the force they was but will still cause teams problems with their coaches tenacious manner.

And that leaves Dewsbury

Lost quality players, signed unknown quantities, missing a quality halfback and a decent prop, our lacklustre coach appears to be putting great faith in the DR with wakefield which could work if we get a fair crack at their decent players that don't make their starting 17.

But relying on not only our team not picking up injuries also relying on wakefield is a very dangerous game that could bite you on the butt very easily.

Think as we are 8th is about our ceiling in this league as we are

7th if the DR works

10th if DR goes boobies up

11th if morrison don't improve as a coach.

So only position I can guarantee is Rochdale finishing 12th

Within the 3 sections I've stated anything can happen as there's a few twists and turns to come this season.

1 wish

Featherstone don't come forth ;)

Reynolds maybe?

Why not ... he owes us!!

Seriously I would welcome him ...  but I suspect he thinks he is better than us!!

I wonder if MS and GM ever read this forum!!  ...  I really fear for our survival in the coming season ...

Can MS afford to be relegated?? .... I doubt it.

What would relegation do for GMs CV and future career aspirations? .....  finish him as a credible coach!

Answer ....  find a way to bring in a playmaking half .....   win for MS .... win for the fans .... win for GM

No relegation!! ... No brainer!!!

You did manage to get to the fans' forum I hope as both of these were covered in depth by MS.

As far as I can see there has been a dearth of decent half backs floating around the game in recent years and those that have been available we simply couldn't afford. Reynolds enjoyed his time with us I believe but he would clearly prefer to test himself in SL. If that opportunity isn't available to him though then I see no reason why we couldn't try to get him back.

I do believe sawyer and Beaumont have a good relationship and are very much on the same page regarding rugby leagues current plight of dwindling availability of skilled players in key positions ie halfback

I think Mr Beaumont has been fantastic over the reynolds loan incident.

Don't think we saw the best of reynolds not been fit when he was loaned to us... But

I'd rather see a dewsbury player in a dewsbury shirt rather than one merely putting on the shirt because that's his only option.

Cmon BSJ, you're banging the same drum now. For those that didn't attend the famous forum, can we afford to be relegated?

And where do you see us finishing based on current squads?

I tend to refer to recent posts not always the first one. But do you seriously believe we will finish 8th?

We all speak like 8th is an achievement. What a time to be a Dewsbury Rams fan.

That's the idea of the thread, giving your opinion of how the league will pan out. I doubt that we will all be right but at the same time I wouldn't personally criticise someone else's opinion in what should be a relatively lighthearted discussion.

There's a lot of despondency here and I'm not about to improve matters. My prediction for end of season positions are pretty similar:

1 HKR

2 London

3 Bradford

4 Batley

5 Toulouse

6 Feathwrstone

7 Swinton

8 Dewsbury

9 Halifax

10 Sheffield

11 Oldham

12 Rochdale

I think 5 & 6 and 8 & 9 could be reversed, depending on a) how Toulouse deal with travelling and B) whether signing limitations and/or injuries affect these two teams.

Legs, Dews, Legs.

Thanks ;), but I reckon BSJ was right, its impossible to predict, there are so many variables. If we start well, we look very good for the top 4, with the way the fixtures have panned out. But it's a huge ask for us to gel and play to a different structure. DR may have the biggest impact on placings next year. So it could all boil down to who gets the most out of there DR arrangements. In all honesty, like some of the posts earlier, I can't see Keegan or Liam Finn turning out too often for Wakefield, so I think they will plug the two gaps pointed out in your squad and will make a big difference. Although what little pace Finn had, has now all but evaporated, it doesn't really matter too much in the championship. Other than Thackeray, there wasn't a fast half back in the division last season, maybe except Leigh's. Finn is a very good organizer and an exceptional footballer and he will bring the best out of the players around him, even if your coach can't. Hirst is a very good prop in the championship, but he is not quick enough, even for a prop at SL level. So if you get them early enough, I really think you'll do much better than many of you think. Featherstone are going to have to rely on DR to hit the top 4 again, if they do as well out of it as last year, they look strong contenders again, but as I stated earlier, I just have a feeling Heatherington will help his old mate Aston out, which could be there undoing.
