New NRL club bid announced, Adelaide Broncos

No, it doesn't make sense to me either and it would never happen. So why would the RFL and Warrington allow the new addition to the professional ranks to be called Toronto Wolfpack?

For a nation of such history and love of identity, I thought the Brits would be scorning the decision.

This club has been welcomed by those wanting to see the game in the northern hemisphere expand beyond it's historic roots.

Anyone here who thinks it stretches the bounds of common sense is seen as a dinosaur.

I'm all for developing the game, promoting it and supporting  and encouraging clubs in development areas.

Clubs in France are a case in point. Catalans (and Toulouse when they were in our division) have given a new and enjoyable aspect to our game.

I struggle to see the viability of a Canadian club in our leagues, but wish them well.

I would rather see time and effort put into developing the game to new and sustainable clubs and fan bases in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

A CANADIAN team have set their sights on securing a place in Super League after being formally admitted to the third-tier of the British professional game.

Toronto Wolfpack was launched in Leeds via a video link to the Canadian city, where former Bradford, Wigan and Great Britain coach Brian Noble was confirmed as director of rugby working alongside ex-Leigh boss Paul Rowley as head coach.

The team will play in the Kingstone Press League 1 from next March and take part in the 2017 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

“Rugby league has always had a pioneering philosophy throughout its history and this initiative offers further evidence of the sport’s wide appeal and readiness to embrace innovation,” said Rugby Football League chief executive Nigel Wood on the video link from Toronto.

It's good to see that they will be entered into the third tier of the game here (named perversely K P League 1) and not just parachuted into SL jumping the queue.

I hope they will then progress on merit.
